I thought I would list some websites I found that are doing free unit studies. I know I have mentioned some of these before, but I'll list them again for any new people to find.

Unitstudies.com - I think this one speaks for itself! Has unit studies to buy, but lots of free info about unit studies and a couple freebies.

Homeschool share - an online co-op of Mom written unit studies. Additional resources for FIAR too!
There are a few sites to check out! That should keep you all busy for awhile (me too!). I don't use unit studies as our main approach to Home ed, but am finding them quite usefull now and then and especially this next month while we are going to be traveling. I'm printing off various unit studies and the worksheets to go with them to do as we fly/drive/ride ect. We are going to read through 'The greatest Christmas Pagent ever' and do a unit study along with it. We also have a couple of Christmas units that we are combining with worksheets from the History Scribe to add to it. (see the post 2 or 3 down about the History scribe)
We are also going to be visiting the White House (yes the one where the president lives!) so I have a small unit about the White house to do before and after that day. (Do you think that might count as a field trip?? Isn't home education great?! If they were in school they would be sat at a desk that day - instead they will be touring the White House on a private tour!!)
We did a one day unit about Stick insects when we got our first hatched nymph. We have also used some two week literature based units around a book tying in all other subjects. The boys like the change from the norm and you know they say that a change is as good as a break. Well, I think sometimes a short unit study is a change that can help keep things fresh while not taking a break and missing out on important learning days.
Anyway, I'm sure that is more than you ever wanted to know about unit studies so I'll leave it there. If you have any questions about unit studies feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer or direct you to someone who can!
I think I'll start a series of these posts with different 'methods' of home education and some of the resources that are available for them. We'll see how it goes.
