Under His Construction

• Nov. 27, 2007 - A Frosty Friend

Fluffy
Cotton
Falling
From the sky above,
Making a
Cute frosty
Friend.
Rolling
Balls of icy
Fluff, heaving
A giant white sphere
Atop. Placing sticks
Into his shimmering
White form.
Giving
Him a carrot nose,
Smooshing on two button
Eyes. Standing back and
Admiring our work. Calling out
for Dad and Mom to see,
“Hurry up the snow is …
M-E-L-T-I-N-G!"

Thought you all might enjoy this snowman the kids and I 'wrote' this morning! Isn't he cute? We have been doing some writing lessons lately and we are really, truly enjoying them! Every homeschooler's dream right? Because we all know how intimidating the idea of teaching our children how to write can be. I think, if they are being honest, most teachers are intimidated by teaching this subject.
Well I am going to share a little secret that I have found with you all that I guarantee will bring success to your future writing lessons. The secret is in the form of an exceptional book I am using called 'If You're Trying to Teach Kids How to Write, You've Got to Have This Book!' by Marjorie Frank.  My friend Anna-Marie (http://principledmom.homeschooljournal.net/) had recommended this book on her blog a while back and then I found it for a great price at Paperback Swap !  As soon as it was delivered, I sat down and started reading. In just the first few chapters of the book my misconceptions about writing were challenged by the author's wonderful insight. I am now almost finished with the book and am just itching to implement all of my new found knowledge about teaching my precious little writers!
If you tremble at the nightmare of tear filled writing classes like I did and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on the latest, greatest writing curriculum then I highly recommend this book to you!

I thought it turned out great too!
Yes I do believe that we do listen to the same wise woman or should I say women as there are so many of them in the Principle Approach group and so many that blog!
Have you had a chance to read any of the book yet? Oh the joy of Paperback Swap! and now DVDSwap! I have had 4 DVDs requested already and many on my wishlist are in right now! Can't wait to get them!

Actually, I just looked through the book, and then put it on the overflowing bookshelf. Bug has glanced through it a few times. It is a great resource. I know we will use it, but right now we are focusing on getting ready for Christmas.

I'm glad you found some DVDs! I have turned a couple great ones down, because my credits are gone. The pressure to buy credits is mounting. : ) If books and DVDs aren't enough, there is also SwapaCD.

Blessings,
Renae

Renae - Oh yes I know the temptation to buy credits at PBS! and now the DVD Swap as well! Fortunately the CD one doesn't tempt me - I don't really have any CD's to swap but I bet I could find some I wanted there! I better stay away! ( :

Jennifer - I am so glad that you were able to order the book and have been blessed by the Paperback Swap - I love it too! I have gotten so many great books there!

Both of you have a great rest of the week! ( :
