Aug. 20, 2009 - My Last Year of Homeschooling
This coming Monday begins my last year of homeschooling. My youngest will be in 12th grade. She is taking three classes at the community college and the rest at home.
I started this journey over 18 years ago and it has been quite the adventure! If I had to do it over again, I might make a few minor changes (mostly regarding materials), but I'd do it ALL over again! It has been so very worth it!

Apr. 27, 2008 - Graduation Dress Shopping
My middle daughter, Victoria, graduates in a few weeks and wanted to find a dress for the special event. Victoria is 18. What makes this graduation even more unique is that she is not graduating from high school, but from college. I shared a little about her education journey in another blog entry in 2006, Graduating from High School Early.
She drove up from Tucson and we drove down from Sedona and all met in Phoenix at a mall. Our first stop was Dillards. The women's department dresses all looked too "old" and the Junior's department all looked too "young" (and NOT enough fabric). We ventured into what the mall called "teen apparel" shops. I normally do not consider myself a prude, but I was shocked at what they are selling to teens (or perhaps I should say, what teens are buying and wearing).
We ended up at Macy's. We seemed to be focused on finding something dressy and fairly conservative, but not too "old" looking. A nice sales associate tried to helped us. She showed us some selections in the women's area and then took us over to the "young adult" section. She kinda blushed and said something about maybe none of the dresses would work for a graduation. She mentioned them being too short and too low cut (and they were!!). And something about them being more for prom. I looked over the selection and said, "Girls wear these to prom?!"
Then to answer my question I look around and see lots of teenage girls looking at the dresses. Later in the dressing room, I see and hear the teens talking and trying on the dresses. Some were in high school and others Freshman in college (based on their conversations). What an eye opener! I was so shocked. For one thing, all these girls were shopping with friends, there was not another mother to be found. I must be getting old, as I recall my mother going shopping with me for my prom dress.
Later we walked by a restaurant were some prom goers were waiting to eat dinner. Many of the girls were wearing a little more fabric than a swimming suit. Some barely covered their panties and bras. Now there were a few wearing something longer and less revealing.
I suddenly became very thankful for my daughters and their choices, especially in apparel!
We did end up finding a lovely dress. I cannot wait to see her in it at graduation!

Apr. 25, 2008 - Tiffany's European Whirlwind Trip
Tiffany finished up her semester in Italy (and senior year of college) yesterday. Today she is off to explore Europe with two friends for about 2 1/2 weeks before flying home in time for graduation.
Her travel plans:
Fly to Olso, Norway - stay one night
Overnight ship to Copenhagen, Denmark - stay one night
Amsterdam, Netherlands for two nights
Paris, France for three nights
Zurich, Switzerland for two nights
Munich, Germany for two nights
Night train to Vienna and then stay one night
Night train to Orvieto, Italy to pick up the rest of her luggage (she left some at school), stay one night in Rome and fly home!
I'd appreciate thoughts and prayers for her safe travel! Thank you!!
