Arrows in the Hand of a Warrior --- Volume 3: Lessons from the Epistles and Revelation -- Section 1, The Epistles
Lesson 1: Romans
A. Bible
1. Romans 5:12; 3:23; 5:6; 10:13; 12:1-2.
2. Romans Road Floor Game.
To make this game:
1) use masking tape to create the path of a gameboard on your floor, making at least seven squares in the path, preferably more.
2) Make 7 paper signs: on the first one, write, "Rome," on each of the next 5 write one of these scripture references (Romans 5:12, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:6, Romans 10:13, Romans 12:1-2), and on the last sign, write "Heaven."
3) On the first square of your game path, tape down "Rome." On the last one, tape down "Heaven." Tape down the others on other squares.
4) Tape shut a square cardboard box and color in circles on it in the manner of dice.
5) Each child is his/her own playing piece.
To play:
1) Youngest child goes first.
2) Toss die. Move your body the number of spaces shown.
3) Recite (or repeat after teacher) the Bible verse you land on.
4) Everyone is a winner when s/he reaches Heaven!

3. Have the children use their spelling/vocabulary lists as a word list for composition.
D. Schedule
1. Allow 1 1/2 - 2 months for this. You will need one or more days to study each part of the body, i.e. Day 1 - Read Bible and sections on the skin from science resources, prepare spelling/vocabulary lists, and hand out composition assignments. Day 2 - Recite Bible memory work, study spelling/vocabulary/handwriting, perform experiments from Blood and Guts, and finish or revise composition. Day 3 - Continue as above studying another part of the body.
Lesson 6: Roles of Men and Women
A. Bible
1. I Corin. 14:34-35; I Timothy 2:9-15; 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; 2:2-5.
2. When I’m a Mommy and When I’m a Daddy.
3. Read “Family Relationships”, Bible Facts p. 412ff.
B. Home Living
1. Teach one homemaking skill to your daughters.
2. Teach one needed skill to your sons. (Read about car repair or have him mow the lawn, for example.)
3. Write a paper on “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up.”
C. Language Arts
1. Reading in Bible.
2. Spelling/vocabulary.
3. Write business letters requesting sewing patterns and nutrition information using Free Stuff for Kids.
D. Schedule
1. 2-3 days.
Lesson 7: The Fruit of the Spirit
A. Bible
1. Read Galatians chapter 5 and Song of Solomon chapter 4. Using commentaries, etc., research the various aspects of each of the nine fruit of the Spirit.
B. Home Economics
1. Sew a Fruit of the Spirit/Spices Quilted Wallhanging.
Color Scheme
Love - Pomegranate: orange or red
Joy - Henna: reddish-orange
Peace - Nard: pink blossoms
Longsuffering - Saffron: yellow
Gentleness - Calamus: brown and white
Goodness - Cinnamon: yellow flowers, green leaves, brown bark
Faith - Frankincense: milky white gum, pink flowers
Meekness - Myrrh: reddish-brown
Self-Control - Aloes: yellow, orange, or whitish-green flowers
Instructions:
Cut a 5" square from nine different fabrics. Sew together using 1/4" seams. For the backing, cut a large square the same size as the nine-patch square from quilted fabric. Quilt together (wrongs sides together) on the sewing machine along each side of the seam lines. Use bias tape to finish the edges and for two loops to hang the finished craft on the wll. Using fabric paint, write a fruit of the Spirit and a spice from Song of Solomon 4:13-14 on each of the nine squares.
C. Language Arts
1. Read Mountains of Spices by Hannah Hurnard.
2. Diagram sentences from the book.
3. Write a book report on it.
4. Compose an essay from your science and history research.
5. McGuffey’s Third Reader Lesson 22. (older child)
D. Science
1. Using encyclopedias, library resources, et al, research the nine spices listed in Song of Solomon 4.
E. History
1. Research the historical uses of the nine spices.
2. Read In The Temple of Solomon and the Tomb of Caiaphas by Hershel Shanks, published by Biblical Archaeology Society, Washington D.C., 1993.
F. Music
1. Sing the Fruit of the Spirit. Compose a melody for the lyrics found in Galatians 5:22-23.
G. Schedule
1. Allow one week.
Lesson 8: Roots and Fruits
A. Bible
1. I Timothy 6:3-21.
2. Memorize I Timothy 6:10.
B. Science
1. Pull up various weeds in your garden or yard. Notice that different roots match up with different leaves/fruits.
C. Language Arts
1. Reading in Bible and Science.
2. Spelling/vocabulary.
3. Write business letters requesting gardening freebies using Free Stuff for Kids.
D. Schedule
1. Allow 2 days.
Lesson 9: Spiritual Gifts
A. Bible
1. Ephesians 4:1-13; I Corin. 12:4-11.
2. Present to each child a different useful gift. Wrap some beautifully and some in plain boxes.
3. Play the Spiritual Gifts Game.
Instructions: Make spiritual gifts game cards by writing a spiritual gift on each of 44 index cards. On 4 more index cards, write "Use it or you'll lose it! Turn in one spiritual gift!
To play: Borrow dice and gameboard (one with a path from start to finish) from another game.
Rules of play: Shuffle game cards and place face down in a pile. Toss die to move game piece on board. Take one card on every turn. Do what it says or keep the card if you receive a spiritual gift. Game ends when all players finish. Winner is the player with the most spiritual gifts.
B. Social Studies
1. To learn about your church’s government, read books your church has available or interview your pastor on the subject.
C. Language Arts
1. Reading in Bible and Social Studies.
2. Spelling/vocabulary.
3. Report on church government research.
D. Schedule
1. Allow 1 day.
Lesson 10: Armor of God

2. Armor, Yesterday and Today by Karin N. Mango.
3. Dress up in armor. An old motorcycle helmet will serve as a helmet of salvation. Galoshes make good shoes shod with the gospel of peace. Find shields and swords at a dollar store.

2. Spelling/vocabulary.
3. Report on soldiers or armor.
