I guess we are now officially year-round homeschoolers. We are still finishing up last school year but at the same time we are starting this school year. Plus daily doing those things like reading the Bible and character training books that we should never take a break from anyway. I am hoping we can get the rest of our curriculum ordered this week so we can start the rest of our subjects soon. I hope to be 3/4 done with this school year before the baby comes. I'm not sure how realistic that is but I can at least try, right?
So far for the new school year we have started science. This year we are doing science as a family instead of each one studying something different with each one having a different curriculum. Our science theme this year is earth and space science. The first semester will be earth science and the second semester astronomy. For earth science we are not using any prepared curriculum but are using the Master Books Wonders of Creation series and lots of library books, plus science experiments and worksheets I've found online. For astronomy we are going to use Classical Astronomy. I've ordered it but not seen it yet, so I'm hoping it will be enough for a whole semester.
Our first earth science topic is weather. Now you have to understand that I never learned about the weather in school except for a few weeks in 6th grade, and I didn't understand a bit of it. And as an adult my only interest in the weather is when a tropical storm is coming. Aside from that, what's to know? This is Florida, it's hot and humid 9 months of the year and the other 3 I check the weather report to see if it's going to get chilly or stay warm. But my firstborn is a weather nut and he understands WAY more than I do, so he sits there and shakes his head at me as I try to teach what I don't know. So starting tomorrow HE is the teacher! I said when he was ONLY TWO YEARS OLD that he was going to be a meteorologist when he grew up and despite his other interests, I still think this is true. That boy is more passionate about the weather than anybody I've ever known!

I am? Cool. Y'know, it's not really all that hard to understand. And it's very, very fascinating.
