Kindred Heart Pen-Pals

I found this off of Jocelyn's blog so I thought I'd share!

We just received our Spring issue of Seasons At Home magazine, and something that I saw in there that caught my eye. Joyous Home has started a Kindred Heart Pen-Pals program that was for 19+, but just recently they opened it up to young ladies, ages 13-18.

“Taking the time for old fashioned correspondence is almost non-existent with the communication possibilities available today. Many people find little reason to sit down with a pretty piece of stationary to carefully pen a nice letter. Perhaps you enclosed a lovely bookmark, scented-pressed flowers, a photograph, or just a hello hug. So few know the joyous anticipation of this lovely gift!”

I’ve already enrolled in the Kindred Hearts Pals so that we can correspond through mail. I must say, I do enjoy getting letters in the mail, especially from people who I have come to be close friends with. It certainly does bring a smile to my face to see someone’s handwritten letter that they took so much time to write. If you would like to participate in this, please go to the Joyous Home site and submit your info. I would really encourage you to do so. It’s really for all ages!

If you would also announce this on your blogs to spread the word, even if you’re not going to participate, that would be great!

Betrothal Before Marriage

New Christian Take on the Old Dating Ritual

By LAURIE GOODSTEIN

Casey Moss and Kara Price never dated each other, or anyone else. They never shared a meal alone, never talked about their dreams or plans. They never kissed and never held hands.

Yet two years ago, when Kara was 14 and Casey was 20 and heading off to medical school, they pledged their lives to each other in an improvised ceremony at their church that they called a betrothal. They exchanged matching signet rings, promised to be faithful and considered their vows as binding as a marriage.

Only then did they set about getting to know each other and thinking of themselves as a couple. Last month, with their parents' permission, they decided they could start holding hands.

While their story may seem a throwback to the Victorian age, Casey and Kara are actually on the front edge of a small but growing movement among conservative Christian youths who are rejecting the dominant culture's approach to dating and romance.

They are not simply saying no to premarital sex. They are essentially saying no to premarital romance. Convinced that dating causes emotional pain, broken promises and sexual straying, they are trying to rewrite the rules for relationships.

Although a formal betrothal like Casey and Kara's is rare -- even in conservative Christian circles some would consider their union extreme because of her youth -- many people are promoting a similar hand-before-heart approach they call courtship. The commitment to marriage comes first, before a couple is allowed to begin drawing emotionally close. In some cases, they are little more than acquaintances. Even then they are chaperoned and kept accountable by parents, pastors or responsible peers.

Thoughts On Celebrating Christmas

Shalom to you!
Well, it's Christmas Eve and everyone is hustling and bustling to finish up with Christmas preparations and packaging, but as for us...We aren't celebrating Christmas the traditional way this year (we really didn't do it last year either). We're quite unsure of how to celebrate it at all. Over the past few years we've looked deeper into why we have Christmas on December 25th and why we have all the other "signs" of Christmas. Unfortunately most of the things we do for Christmas celebration are of pagan origin. We quite putting up a Christmas tree several years ago, and just recently we found a verse in Jeremiah (even before the idea of CHRISTmas was born) that forewarned us about cutting down a tree and decorating it with silver and gold as the heathens did.

Jeremiah 10: 3-4 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
This entire chapter is really breath-taking and has a lot of strong words.

I was once heard,
"Even if everyone celebrates a holiday for the wrong (pagan) reasons, doesn't mean that we are celebrating the same holiday for those reasons."
Now, I do think this statement is true, but why would we want to take any part in anything that is pagan? It is a hard decision to make and lots of thoughts to ponder. I am torn about it because I don't want to not celebrate Christ, but I certainly don't want to do anything that is un-Biblical.

Robin Sampson @ Heart of Wisdom has been posting some interesting thoughts on celebrating Christmas and Jesus. She did a really good job on these two posts, To Christmas or Not to Christmas? Holiday Dilemmas and King of the Jews: King of Kings, so I would encourage you to stop over there.

I really enjoying reading her blog because she looks at the Bible through a Hebraic perspective. You can learn a lot from reading her blog about the Hebrew culture and why some of the Biblical commands are the way they are, in relation to how Jesus was raised.

And has anyone ever noticed that we say Merry Kris-mas, not Merry CHRIST-mas? I wonder if the pronunciation of Christmas has anything to do with Kris Kringle?

Shalom to you in CHRIST,

Encourage Your Sisters in Christ

I received an email from a well-known blogger mom.
"Yes, I really meant it - I love your blog. :) I think it is wonderful and that you are such a joy to the Lord being so strong in your faith at such a young age. I would give my right arm if I could have been like you that young. It brings tears to my eyes. I had to come to the Lord the HARD way. You can read my testimony on my blog's sidebar. I hope my daughter grows up and is just like you.

God bless and keep strong in Christ,
Heather "
Wow! It brought tears to my eyes... truly. It is so heart-warming and encouraging when you receive nice comments about your blog...especially from a mom-blogger.

As Christian women, we should be encouraging the younger generation, whether you're 15 or 35, to keep strong in the Faith, to seek Jesus in everything, to have hope, to be pure and let them know you're proud of them. If you don't know them in person, drop them a comment (It won't take more then 30seconds to say "good job!") and tell them that way! It will give them "fuel" for their spirits.

The Bible gives good instructions on what/how the older women are supposed to do for/with the younger women...
Titus 2: 3-5
    3The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Here is another comment I received last week.
Spoken by Walkersquiver  at 9:09 PM
I enjoyed reading your passion for the Lord. It gives me hope for my own daughter. God Bless!
I am not the perfect role model nor do I claim to be. I have flaws and blemishes. I still sin and disobey... but if in my spirit I can give hope to mothers for their daughters, it keeps me striving to be a "perfect role model".

Shalom

Feminism Is Mixed Up With A Muddled Idea

Isn't this SO TRUE?

"...it (feminism) is mixed up with a muddled idea that women are free when they serve their employers but slaves when they help their husbands."

Wow.

Saturday Psalm & Praise - Psalms11

I couldn't decide which psalm or praise to post so I decided to do Psalm 11 since today is the 11th of November.

Psalm 11 reads the following:

1In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

2For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

3If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

4The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

5The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

6Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

7For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

What a powerful chapter. We are like the bird who flees to the Lord, which is like a giant mountain. He is there ready to protect and shelter us from harm, from night, for the storm.

I have been reading a lot of Deuteronomy, and seeing how the Lord treats those who keep His commandments. Israel was a blessed nation. They were protect like the bird who flee to the mountain. The Lord gave them countless chances, whereas with other nations He simply wiped them from the records. He still does that today. Because of Jesus Christ, we are all able to flee to the mountain... again... and again... and again. There is no limit.

I will put my trust in the Lord, who will keep me, as a little bird fleeing to the mountain. He is my protector.

Please either email me or leave your email address if you wish to receive notices when I update this blog.

What Our Country Needs

What does our country need? Not armies standing with sabers gleaming ready for the fight; Not increased navies, skillful and commanding, to bound the waters with an iron might; Not haughty men with glutted purses trying to purchase souls, and keep the power of place; Not jeweled dolls with another vying for palms of beauty, elegance, and grace, but we want women, strong of soul, yet lowly with rare meekness, born of gentleness; The woman whom all-little children bless; Brave, earnest women, helpful to each other, with finest scorn for all things low and mean; Women who hold the names of wife and mother far nobler than the title of a Queen.
