Feb. 27, 2007 A Haiku by Hannah
Mommy assigned me a poem to write called a Haiku.
We are entering it into 4EverHisChild's Haiku contest.
Mommy helped me with my Haiku by teaching me what syllables are.
We counted the syllables in my name.
We also talked about rhyming.
Haiku's do not have to rhyme. They have 3 lines. The lines have 5 syllables, 7 syllables and 5 syllables.
I told Mommy some things and sentences about the snow, our goat kids and our new horses.
Here is my Haiku:
Our Winter
Having baby goats.
Playing in slippery snow.
We got two horses.
You can enter the Contest, too.
There are 3 age categories and 3 different prizes.

Sep. 7, 2006 Farming during the Early Church time period
My sister, Lois, was reading to me about farming in Rome. We dont live in Rome but I liked to learn about it anyway. She read to me about sheep, goats, and horses. She also said about pigs.
Olives
To get olives, men used sticks to knock them off the trees. When they pressed the olives it made oil.
Honey
I also learned about bees and honey (because the Romans didnt have sugar, they used honey to make stuff sweet).

What does our country need? Not armies standing
with sabers gleaming ready for the fight;
Not increased navies, skillful and commanding,
to bound the waters with an iron might;
Not haughty men with glutted purses trying
to purchase souls, and keep the power of place;
Not jeweled dolls with another vying
for palms of beauty, elegance, and grace,
but we want women, strong of soul, yet lowly
with rare meekness, born of gentleness;
The woman whom all-little children bless;
Brave, earnest women, helpful to each other,
with finest scorn for all things low and mean;
Women who hold the names of wife and mother
far nobler than the title of a Queen.

Celebration of how Queen Esther saved the Jews from their enemies. They dress up as each one of the characters
The Passsover (March-April)
Commemoration of the Exodus from Egypt. The Angel of Death killed every first born Egyptian, but passed over the Israelites
Shavuot(May-June)
Remembers the days that Moses received the Ten Commandments. It is also known as the Feast of Weeks.
