We have had an overwhelming response to The HomeScholar mini-course called "The 5 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make Homeschooling High School." It made me realize that there was a huge hunger within the homeschool community for information on how to go about homeschooling high school. As part of that mini-course, I asked subscribers to identify their "Biggest Question" about homeschooling high school. One of my favorite biggest questions was very short:
"How can we do this????????????"
I'm pretty sure those 12 question marks represent the 12 years of homeschooling!
I understand the skepticism. When we started junior high, we weren't certain we "had what it takes" to homeschool high school. Yes, my kids were doing fine academically; and to the shock of our extended family, socialization wasn't a problem. We understood the "Why" of homeschooling high school, but we were pretty weak on the "What" and especially the "How." So I did what I've always done when faced with a great unknown....Research!
It's true - research is my favorite stress coping mechanism. I purchased/checked out/borrowed every homeschooling high school book available and spent the better part of a year reading and taking notes. I gradually became convinced that my husband and I could do this thing. So...
We put together a high school plan and, presto, it went perfectly!
OK, so it wasn't THAT easy. But it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It was also "rewarding," "amazing," and most shockingly, "fun!"
How did it turn out?
The results were beyond our wildest dreams. You see, both my boys graduated after eight years of homeschooling independently. Both went off to college in the fall after earning four-year full-tuition scholarships to their first choice university.
When my boys left for college, I decided to start The HomeScholar to help other parents homeschool high school. At first, I was doing a lot of private consulting with families. Soon it became apparent that the need for consulting was much greater than the hours in a day.
Matt and I brainstormed how we could provide assistance to a greater number of families. Families that were either considering or committed to homeschooling high school but didn't know where to start.
We wanted a place where families could get the homeschooling high school help they needed - when then needed it - without having to schedule an appointment.
We wanted a way to be able to give personalized help to many families at once and to communicate our best information in a timely manner to everyone.
We wanted to get critical training courses into the hands of the families who needed them without spending a lot of time packaging and shipping.
Plus, we wanted to do it in a way that was affordable to families who couldn't necessarily afford private consultations.
So....
The HomeScholar Gold Care Club Was Born!
