At the 2009 Washington State Invitational the Pierce County Blackhawk 4-H Archers proved to be leaders not just in our district, but in state. Not only are the Blackhawks well educated, they are very skilled athletes. At the end of the grueling 12 hour long tournament in the hot, dry desert sun of Ephrata, WA the Blackhawk Archers returned home with 11 of the 18 possible awards.
While our educational project does not focus on “winning”, we do provide the tools, knowledge and skills that produce winners and more important, leaders. The Northwest District Tournament held at Skookum Archers in Puyallup has also generated a considerable amount of interest among local and regional youth and families who wanted to learn more about the Blackhawk 4-H Archers.
Now that word is getting out concerning our success at the State Championship the inquiries continue. In an effort to meet the demands and accommodate families in the Pierce County region, we will be holding an open house during our next practice session on Tuesday June 13th at the Skookum Archers facility in Puyallup.
This will be an opportunity for potential new members to hear a brief overview about the Blackhawk Archers 4-H project, watch a short exhibition tournament by our State Team and if time allows, get a free basic lesson and a chance to shoot a few arrows under the supervision of our trained instructors.
Our facility is small so everyone must RSVP via my e-mail by June 10th. The invitation is limited to interested parties only. More detail will be provided at the time they RSVP.
