HOWDY!
It's been three months and I’ve decided it’s time for another
giveaway. A Journey Through Learning sent me a number
of their fantastic lapbooks to use in a few “gift sets” of
Circle C Adventures books. I thought a drawing would be a
nice idea as we get closer to Christmas. And speaking of
Christmas, CBD offers a great deal on the set of four CCA books,
even better than what I can offer on my website.
If you’re interested, go here: CBD
Also, I just created a book trailer previewing
Book 5, Andrea Carter and the Trouble with Treasure.
The book is due to be released in February.
I’d love it if you took a peek at the trailer.
Just click here:
TROUBLE WITH TREASURE TRAILER.
OK, now on to the drawing! I have books and lapbooks available
for these three books:
Andrea Carter and the Long Ride Home
Andrea Carter and the Dangerous Decision
Andrea Carter and the Family Secret
(Sorry, I don’t have any lapbooks left
for Andrea Carter and the San Francisco Smugglers).
To enter the drawing, all you have to do is reply to this e-zine,
telling me which book/lapbook set you’d like to win. I’ll draw the winning email “reply” next Friday, November 20th.
I will then contact the winner for their mailing address.
If you would like to know who won, you can email me for
the winner’s name after next Friday.
We wanted to let you know that our growing consignment shop has a good selection of chapter books, A Beka textbook sets and readers. Come by and see us....we are usually here from 10:00-6:00 Monday through Friday, but you might call ahead because sometimes we need to be out of the office.

PIERCE COUNTY FRIENDS: The Pierce Co. Library is forgiving fines up to $75 this week only (starting Oct. 5th). You have to go in with your card and just ask.
Have you ever wondered what you could do differently with some of the "stuff" you see around your home?
With a spark of low-cost creativity and a few simple instructions, you'll be amazed!
What if someone showed you exactly what they did with some regular household items to get you started?
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine provides plenty of idea-filled pages in the E-Book:
Dreams and Designs--
Homemade Supplies to Complement Your Homeschool
Do you have a desire for your homeschool?
Dream a little . . . and then design!
Homeschoolers are big dreamers; it is often one of the underlying reasons we homeschool. We dream of a better education for our children, of curriculum that will present a Biblical worldview, and of days filled with learning as we seamlessly combine our studies with everyday life.
So why not dream about things we would like to improve in our homeschools?
Donna Campos shares many things that she personally wanted in her homeschool and in her child-care home prior to homeschooling, and with full-color photos and detailed descriptions, she walks you through the process:
"This book is intended to help you consider your dreams for your children, think through some of the things you desire for your homeschool, and then come up with designs to fulfill those wants and needs."
Here's what one homeschooling mom had to say:
"What a wonderful surprise it was when I saw the contents .. . . If you are into being creative and frugal with your homeschool, then this E-Book is for you. If you aren't that crafty but want to spice up how you decorate or organize your school, then this is for you as well. Each concept has instructions as well as illustrations as you put each item together, so it's very mommy-friendly to use. I love how you can take old items in your house that you are probably never going to use again or eventually throw away and revive and use them to benefit your child's education. I would recommend this E-Book to any homeschool family."
-Lynn Pitts, Great Falls, Montana
With almost 70 photos, Dreams and Designs will help you build a desire for a few dreams of your own!
Design fun, easy-to-make learning aids and imaginative organizing tools using household items--and dream of your best homeschool year yet!
Chapters cover a broad range of supportive materials for homeschool use and include:
Creative use of display boards as calendars and for various theatrical presentations.
Instructions for cutting display boards for use as personal partitions or activity centers, with activity center ideas included.
A makeover for a simple computer desk for use as a schooling cart, along with great "spark" ideas for makeover possibilities in your own home.
Timelines using manila file folders that perform double duty when storing history-related assignments.
Index cards for use as activity cards, for initiating creative writing assignments, categorizing, increasing observational skills, or developing verbal discussion ability.
Using household organizers in homeschooling--things like plastic storage items and large, plain envelopes are innovatively represented.
Imagine using a single display board, the kind often used for science fair projects, for multiple uses over time. Begin using it as a story-viewing tool--your children will have a blast drawing their own stories on scrolls of paper! Use the same board as a puppet theater, and after years of use when you think it has thoroughly done its job, cover it with felt and you have continued use of the same item as a flannel board! These are the kinds of ideas you'll find in Dreams and Designs, and you will learn many more.
Has your homeschool become so busy it is hard for multiple students to work peacefully in the same room? Find helpful instructions for a variety of items that will help keep your homeschool functioning more smoothly, and when necessary, more quietly.
Design imaginative personal partitions that sit easily on a table or counter and provide a little self expression and artistic creativity.
Excitedly watch the faces of grandparents and friends when they come into your schoolroom or hallway covered in a timeline made from file folders, clearly representing some of the knowledge your children are gaining. (And watch how much fun the children are having making it!)
Spend hours enjoying cut-and-paste time as a family by designing a collection of activity cards made from index cards and old magazines. Use them yourself for years to come or give as a gift to a new homeschool family!
Imagine your preschoolers using an old photo frame covered with felt as a tray for use with tangram or other plastic shapes in silent activities.
Give new life to small furniture pieces in ways you never imagined--provide division between work spaces, ready storage for lapbooking and notebooking projects, or mobile storage that is easily moved from office to schoolroom to living room.
Never see plastic closet organizers and large manila envelopes in the same way again. Gain a whole new perspective as these items store puppets and puzzles or become perfect displays for your children's handiwork!
Get creative juices flowing with helpful suggestions in many different areas from the pages of Dreams and Designs.
As a successful child-care provider for more than fifteen years, and a homeschooler of children from typically-developing to those with learning delays and autism, Donna has gained practical experience in meeting the learning needs of a variety of children. Her involvement as a senior product reviewer for TOS has also increased her knowledge of what's available for homeschools.
Meet the needs in your own home with creative uses for items you already have--items you probably never imagined using differently:
A calendar that displays memorization helps for your home address, phone number, Scripture, months of the year, seasons, and includes creative use of coloring pages, magazine covers, or any other page of information you want to focus on--a welcome tool for older and younger students alike!
Gather some screws, cup hooks, scrap lumber, and caster wheels to make-over a simple desk to create an incredible mobile cart every homeschool can put to good use--while saving hundreds of dollars over the commercial options available and often dreamed about.
Easily create two or three partitions from a single display board for your child's private work space or an organized area for a learning center. Put scrapbooking leftovers, partial wallpaper boarders, or artistic ability to good use as the whole family enjoys building a library of learning centers for years of enjoyment.
Do you question whether these ideas will work for you? Will you need to buy additional (maybe expensive) materials? Think again! The Campos family homeschool is very much like most other homeschools today, actively seeking the best education possible for their children.
The ideas utilize everyday things, such as:
Large manila envelopes
4" x 6" index cards
Floor-style plastic shoe storage
Old magazines
Under-used computer desks
End tables and sewing tables
File folders
Foam or cardboard display boards
Puppets, markers, and rolls of newsprint paper
Old game pieces for activity centers
Dr. Seuss and other rhyming books
Hanging shoe organizers
Old, beat-up corkboards
Broken picture frames
Here is what homeschoolers had to say when they read this E-Book:
"I am not the 'creative' mom. I try, but it is a struggle, and I have to work very, very hard to come up with even a mediocre arts/crafts assignment.Donna Campos is a very creative person. Her creativity shines in her book Dreams and Designs. Donna incorporates children and arts and crafts stuff into making useful things that are very practical to our homeschools . . . She encourages her readers to think outside the box and use the things that are available in their homes. She also encourages readers to take her ideas and run with them, expanding them and making them their own. My favorite chapter was on how to repurpose household furniture for easy organization and storage of homeschool "stuff." You know, the stuff you don't know what to do with . . .. or that isn't easily available to use. That stuff!"
-Carie Shinn, Wheeler, Illinois
"Dreams and Designs is an E-Book that offers practical inspiration to homeschool moms, new and veteran alike .. . . The book is helpful for exiting the "dreamy" stage and entering the practical-application stage of homeschool preparations. I've been looking for ways to move out of the textbook rut and make school more interesting, and I will definitely be incorporating some ideas from this book."
-Jennifer Harrison, Mountain Grove, Missouri
"I used to receive those colorful, flashy catalogs in the mail when the girls were younger. After all, I was still on a lot of "teacher" mailing lists, right? I would see so many things that looked so wonderful to have in our home, but the price tag kept me from ordering much at all. If I had a copy of Dreams and Designs, I would have thrown out the catalogs and just enjoyed using the ideas in this E-Book instead! . .. . I really appreciate Donna Campos' heart for the family and how to educate children frugally as well as having a lot of fun with them."
-Julieanne Miller, Roseburg, Oregon
"With this book and a little thought, we can often create what we need from items that we already own while saving money. There are countless teaching ideas included throughout the book as well. I never realized how many different ways display boards could be used until I read this E-Book . . .. It is easy to fall into the trap of 'keeping up with the homeschooling Joneses,' or to think we must get every trendy new curriculum product that comes on the market. The most valuable lessons that this book teaches are to trust God to provide us with what we need and desire, to make use of what we have, to use inexpensive supplies to make what we need, to recycle, and to live within our means."
-Marya Mesa, Wesley Chapel, Florida
". .. . create activity bags for the children. When you are on the go or need to go to an appointment, grab one of the activity bags and, voilà, homeschool on the road. Desk organization is another issue for homeschoolers. The author suggests various ideas to make your homeschool more efficient. Stop looking for your supplies; have them all at the same place . . .. If you feel like you need to spark your homeschool but don't have the money to spend that much, check out the E-Book Dreams and Designs--Homemade Supplies to Complement Your Homeschool, because it is packed with tons of ideas. And the best thing is that you could do it with your kids--create something together they would use later in their homeschool. It is just the best."
-Isabelle Lussier, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
"Donna shares with you some of the ways she's used inexpensive items to transform her homeschool. The first section of the book gives you several ways to use something as simple as a three-sided science fair display board! From just this one item, you can make an adaptable calendar, a puppet theater, a scrolling story board, personal partitions (for those of you who are homeschooling more than one child), and activity center partitions! Donna doesn't just show you how to make each of those things, she also shows you how each one can be used in different ways with pictures and detailed directions . .. . This E-Book was just the nudge I needed to get myself in gear! . .. . Donna Campos is very creative and invites you to think outside the box (literally!), while providing you plenty of help and direction along the way."
-Jenny Thompson, Pensacola, Florida
Hyperlinks to products helpful to your homeschool are included throughout Dreams and Designs, which makes it easy to reference products you already own or may consider using.
Print its 50+ pages or read it on-screen--this is one resource you'll want to use in preparation for the new school year. For the small price of $12.45 you'll be making an investment for your children and your homeschool while keeping down the costs on items you won't have to buy.
You may want to order one as a gift for a friend--perfect for a beginning homeschooler or to provide a spark of new ideas for any homeschooling family!
Transform your "stuff" into something useful for your homeschool--by tomorrow!

The sunny weather a couple of weeks ago allowed us to get together and take some pictures for covers of possible future books in the Circle C Adventures. For those of you who don't know this bit of trivia, "Andi" on the cover is an accidental cover model. For the first book (Long Ride Home), I sent in a sample picture for the graphic team to look at. To our surprise Kregel used the picture on the cover. Last July, Brio magazine printed an article Jessica ("Andi") wrote about her experiences. Now that there are four books in the series (possibly more), I figured it might be nice to have a few more pictures, especially of "Rosa," Andi's hispanic friend. So we spent the afternoon goofing around and having a great time with "Taffy" and "Taffy's" owner. Yep, that's me in the funky cowboy hat---enjoying a little break with the "stars" between snapping pictures.
Another exciting piece of news is my interview with station KNEO in Neosho, Missouri, last month. If you'd like to listen to the broadcast, here is the link to the MP3 file:
And lastly, I submitted Book 5 of my Circle C Adventures, Andrea Carter and the Trouble with Treasure, to my publisher a couple months ago. I'm hoping they will accept it quickly, but the wheels of the publishing industry turn slowly.
That's it for now, partners. Have a very blessed Christmas!
More pictures (and the whole story of our "accidental model") can be found in the Photo Gallery on my new and improved web site, which now includes a store, where folks can purchase autographed copies of the Circle C Adventures series: www.susankmarlow.com
Thanks for joining me for this edition of the Circle C Roundup!
