One day at a time

Nov. 5, 2007 - My week this week

Well this week is proving to be a busy week.  Yesterday I had to get a sick call appointment for my daughter at the dentist.  She has a tooth coming in but the other tooth hasn't fallen out yet.  She is fine.  The dentist said that the tooth that is in there should be falling out sometime soon and it should be okay.  I also had a womens bible study last night so I had to go over that.  This on top of homeschooling and chores and playing outside and finding a new shelf for my daughters room so we can put her homeschool stuff in there.

Today we have homeschool, I need to finish alot of laundry and the kids have their sports banquet tonight.  (Football for the boy and Cheerleading for the girl)  I despise these things.  It is usually a bunch of kids running around acting crazy and their parents acting likethey don't see them.  But it is for the kids so I do what need to do.

Wednesday, I have homeschool for my oldest daughter but my DH is taking my husband to the dentist.  Poor baby has to get his tooth pulled.  His right (I think or left) top middle tooth has not came out yet and the other one has.  So the dentist is going to pull it because it is stopping the other tooth from coming in there.  My poor baby.  So I will be taking care of him when his dad drops him back at home.  He is a big baby so I will have to nurse him as well as deal with my two year old who can get quite jealous.

Thursday, is my son's birthday.  Yeah why get his tooth pulled the day before his birthday.  They wanted to do it on his birthday.  So this is an improvement.   We will do light homeschooling and I will probably take the kids somewhere fun to play.  I am going to make a cake and when my husband gets home we wil open presents.

Friday, homeschooling as usual...lots of cleaning and I have a baby shower to go to in the evening.

You know after I write it all down it doesn't look like alot but usually this little bit will turn into alot.

So that is all for now.

Oct. 21, 2007 - Children steal your brain cells

Okay so I am always thinking about things to write about in this blog and so that is why there are two post.  I had a story pop in my head that I thought I would share.

Saturday morning I woke up and was about to make some bacon for my husband to go with some leftover banana pancakes.  Well the bacon was frozen so I couldn't.  Now every Sunday in our house we have muffins, fruit, and bacon.  So why when on Saturday when I had  noticed I hadn't taken out the bacon I didn't take it out for Sunday?

The children have stolen my brain cells.

So Sunday when I got up to cook breakfast I had to but the bacon in some water.  Thank goodness it is turkey bacon and it thaws pretty quickly.  Problem solved.  That one anyway.  I was making muffins, I usually make two batches, and I forgot to put the second bach in the oven.  They were sitting on the stove for like 20 minutes.  My hubby goes in the kitchen and asks if there is anything in the oven.  I tell him yea.  He, being the logical man that he is, looks in the oven.  "Baby," he says. "Theres nothing in the oven."  I get up and the muffins are sitting right there on the stove.  I had even set the timer on the oven to know when they were going to be done. Needless to say we were a few minutes late for church.  What happened?  Again I am blaming it on the children.  Everyone you have takes 5 years from your brain cells.  I have 3 you do the math.

Oct. 21, 2007 - Random Ramblings

So as all homeschoolers know life is busy.  I am trying to post more but there are only 24 hours in a day and I'd like to sleep during some of them.  Today I decided to post some of my random ramblings.  These are things that are in my head or i have talked about with others.

Halloween -  So theres this thing called halloween.  I am sure many of you have heard of it.  It is when children (sometimes adults) dress up as something that they are not and go door to door begging for candy.  Why????  In my opionion complete waste of time.  Not to mention as a Christian I don't feel this is a celebration that God would actually be happy with.  The crazy thing is when we decided not to participate in halloween so many people acted as if we were abusing our children.  These were Christian people, I was shocked.  Am I saying you are not a Christian if you do celebrate halloween...definitely not.  That is your choice and that is between you and God.  I am not going to look down on you because you do so please don't look down on me because I don't.

Trading Spouses - So me and my husband like to watch reality tv.  Not the crazy reality tv (although we used to) but nanny 911, trading spouses.  These things are ridiculous but I have learned some things from these shows (what to do and what not to do).  Well we were watching it last night and on there was a lady who was a Christian she swapped houses with a lady who was a tatoo artist and who's husband was a body piercer.  This is the normal scheme of things on trading spoiuses but what made me hot as fire was the Christian lady.  She was a hot mess.  She was trying to witness to the husband and she was so mean and accusing and judgemental.  Then that lady who she swapped places with was getting the same thing from the Christian ladies mother who kept telling the lady that she was going to hell.  Okay the last time I checked no one but God himself has a heaven or hell to put anyone in so how are you going to tell that lady she is going to hell.  That witness has fell on deaf ears.  They refused to dust the sand off and go on when their witnessing was not accepted and it just killed any seed that possible could have been planted.  I was annoyed.

Homeschooling - Now I get flack from so many people because of my families choice to homeschool.  I understand and that is fine that is their opinion but when you have no children no educational degrees, I just don't need your opinion on the subject.  Especially when you are trying to convince me not to homeschool.  Again I was annoyed.

Well we had a week off last week because my hubby took leave and we wanted to spend some quality time with him.  So today is our first day back after a weeks vacation.  Whats on the agenda this week:

Bible - I have no idea.  I have nothing planned out.  I'll just let God lead me in that  But we are working on memorizing John 3:16 ( Which I believe they already have memorized but I decided to do it again)

Math - same ole same ole, going through lesson by lesson

History - we are studing Pilgrims, Puritans, Indians and the Mayflower

Writing - Simple writing practice

Science - We are finally going to start our Apologia Science book.

English - Still Abeka, going through the special sounds and spelling rules to get the kids back up to speed since they missed alot of that last year in public school

Jasmin - Still working on letters, numbers, shapes and colors

Elective - We are going to start piano lessons from "John Thompsons's Teaching Little Fingers to Play."  I am teaching them and I don't know how to play that good myself, so we are going to learn together.

P.E. - Nothing formal I am just going to try and get them some form of exercise each day.  Maybe we will go to the pool one day this week.  (It is 40 degrees outside but the pool is indoor and heated)

Training - I need to work on the older two talking back, i.e "Princess" go do the dishes".....Mommy I have to do something else or Mommy can I...The proper response is Yes Ma'am.  The little one I need to work on church training.  she has been acting a horrible mess in church lately so I need to have her sit down 15 minutes each day quietly with no toys and play a sermon off of a website or something and correct her.

Well that is my week I pray ya'll will be blessed through out this week and this day.  If the Lord says the same I will write again soon.

Oct. 7, 2007 - Columbus day / My Office Hours

So school is going pretty good.  I am still getting tripped up on Social Studies and Science right now, but I have assured myself that as long as I am doing Devotion/Bible, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic the rest will fall into place.

Today is Columbus day and the children have been inquiring about it.  I have chosen to tell them the truth and nothing but the truth.  This has been my policy since they were born.  No Santa, no easter bunny, no tooth fairy.  Not only for the spiritual reasons but because it is just plain lying.  So when it comes to Columbus I must tell the children the truth or what I know to be the truth.  Columbus did not discover America.  He didn't discover anything at all really, he was just a really good PR (Public Relations) man.  He didn't even think he discovered America he thought he discovered something else.

So when the children ask why does this man have a holiday?  I must tell them, "because he performed wonderful public relations."

My office hours

So I have one of those children that constantly talks.  I know none of you know what I am talking about.    But in my world I am bombarded with constant talk about absolutely nothing and questions that have no relevance to anything whatsoever.  I know this is a kid thng and that is what they do but, as many homeschoolers can attest to, when you spend all day around the under 10 circuit sometimes you need a small break to rejuvinate.  Thus comes my office hours.  I have implemented this in my house with my children (or atleast my oldest two, the 2 year old doesn't get it just yet)  My office hours are from 6am to 6pm.  Now I know some of you supermoms out there are gasping at me and just feel I am too horrible to be a homeschool mom.  Maybe, but it works.

How it works.  From 6am to 6pm all systems are go.  Any question any conversation,  Whatever your fancy lets talk about it.  Once the music plays at six 'o'clock (I live in Japan so music actually plays at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm long story I talk about on another entry) Any questions that are not pertinent to the mission of this family must be written down to be discussed when "The Office of Mom" reopens bright and early at 6 am.  Does this mean I don't talk to my children after 6pm...NO but it does mean questions like

"Hey ma, if you lived in Africa and you were purple and the world was flat and a bird with no head flew from the sky and pooped on you would you feel it or would yoube camoflauged because you decided to pick up a camelian and hold it."  (an exaggeration but close to the questions I am asked on a daily basis)

Funny story:

The other night we had one of the girls from the church babysit.  They were all sitting here talking to the babysitter  and my son was , as usually, contantaly talking.  My oldest daughter says to my son "Your taling too much."  My son then pauses, thinks and asks the babysitter, "What are your office hours."

She asked me about it when I got home.  She did not understand what my poor son was talking about.  We had a laugh about it when I explaned it to her.

Sep. 24, 2007 - Sick and homeschooling

I am currently getting over a death of a cold.  (one of my many sayings that do not make sense.  It just means a really bad cold)  My throat is still on fire but I don't feel like I am going to pass out anymore, which is good.

Yesterday I laid in bed all day.  My DD (8) really stepped up..she made everyone lunch and kept my two year old from eating, cutting or killing anything.  Maybe I actually did something right and taught the child something.  I am so proud of her.

As far as school went yesterday I came them some worksheets for each subject and then was a bad mom cause they watched movies most of the day.  I feel guilty but if I would not have rested the day I would have ended up being sick all week.  Such is life

Sep. 16, 2007 - 2nd Week of school

Well we survived the second week of school.  (No I am not going to say that every week

We did every subject (except Science - still haven't gotten the book yet) everyday except for Friday.  We didn't have school on Friday because I am trying to set up the lesson plans to have test on certain days so I needed to skip a day of school to put us on track.  I have done surprisingly well with keeping our schedule and doing what we are supposed to do.

What I am having problems with...chores.

I am trying to make sure all my chores get done but I seem to be more tired than normal.  My DH says it is from doing a routine everyday.  So hopefully I will get used to it.

Be Blessed

Sep. 11, 2007 - Light of the World

So we our halfway through our second week of school.  God is good!  Things are going well.  I thought I would need to make myself accountable to someone to make sure my slothfulness did not get in the way of teaching the children but it does not seem to be that way.  I have not felt like I didn't want to teach them.  I actually enjoy teaching them.

"Socialization".....I went to our bases homeschool group's first meeting of the school year last night.  It was a meet and greet type thing.  It was nice but there was only maybe 5 or 6 families there.  I know from the yahoo group there are atleast 50 families, so where are they?  I want my children to have friends but the kids that live around us are really, how do you say,  BAD!  I allow the children to play with them when I am supervising and even then some of the things that come out of these childrens mouths.  I of course correct them but they look at me like I was crazy.  It's like no one has every told these children anything.  Or what I have noticed is when they are chastised, their parents are so mad they just scream at them or 'hit' them with all their might.( I don't call it spanking because it is not.  When you wait till you are so mad that you are trying to hurt your child that is hitting.  I know I used to be one of those parents)

I know I am supposed to be the light of the world and teach others about Christ, but is it really at the expense of my children.  Am I supposed to bring these children into my home and around my children when their influence and example is one of the reasons why I took my children out of public school.

I'm praying, pray with me...please

Sep. 7, 2007 - We survived the first week

So today is Friday and we have survived the first week of school.  I have been so proud of myself. 8 am comes and we start school.  Even this morning I was talking to my sister but I actually got off the phone because it was 5 minutes to 8 ad I knew it was time for school.  (This is not normal for me I would have kept talking until I was done and just started school when I wanted to.)

What did the children learn this week:  Check out my geocities website to find out what they learned by subject.

We did all subjects except Science and their elective.

Keep praying with me I am still not used to this yet.  Today I had to take a nap in the middle of the morning I was exhausted.  I made sure we had Bible/devotion, English, Math.  We actually did two lessons in our ABEKA Phonics, Reading and spelling.  (The kids like to do worksheets.  They think they are fun.)

Anyway, check me out next week.

Sep. 4, 2007 - I survived the 1st day of school!!!!

Okay people it went well!  Yes I went through the 1st day of homeschooling and I am still here to tell you all about it.  I lived............................Okay I digress from my dramatics but seriously it went well.

What did we do all day?  Well we started off with prayer/devotion/bible.  We read Matthew chapter 1 where I had to read it to them to avoid certain questions that I choose not to answer right now.  i.e.  mom whats a virgin?  It's someone who hasn't had sex yet.  Well what exactly is sex?  I don't want that conversation right now not with a 6 and an 8 year old.....

We looked at the family tree of Jesus and had a 5 finger pray.  Then we had writing where they were told to memorized Ephesians 6:1-3 and yesterday was the day they were supposed to know it.  I had them write that neatly and do a capital and lowercase 'e' writing paper.  While they were writing I did school with babygirl (2 on Tuesday) and we used Debi Pearls "ABC bible verses and talked about the letter A.  I read her a story about a Cow and she colored the letter A.

Now it was time for history/geography where we all talked about Labor day and why we have it as well as the upcoming grandparents day.  I had them make cards for all their grandparents.  Which, because of divorce and remarriage, there are 4 grandmas and 3 grandpas. (long story) So they had 4 cards to make.  After that I put baby girl down for a nap and the two oldest children and I worked on phonics.

After Phonics I split them up for math and then it was time for lunch.  We did not have science since our Apologia zoology book hasn't gotten here yet.  Our ABEKA reading books got here just in time as we will need them next week.  I picked them up yesterday.  Now we need our piano books and science book and we will have a full curriculum going here.

After lunch we went to the post office, library and bx.  When we returned home  I had the oldest two do their chores and then silent reading and I did more school with babygirl. We talked about the number 1 and a square and I read her another cow book.

The kids seemed to enjoy school I was a little worried about my social child, my son, but I think he will be okay.

It is almost 8 so I have round up the students and begin

Sep. 1, 2007 - I wasn't tagged but I love these things

I am so addicted to these things.  I think you find out so much about someone when they answer these things. Heres a little about me

1. What is your school's name and why?

The Spiritual Growth Academy.....SGA....And yes I am from Georgia

 2. How is your weather today?

It was raining this morning but now it is nice and breezy.  It was a very beautiful day today

3. What steals your joy?

My family...not my immediate family like my kids and my hubby but my mom and that whole side of the family.  I try not to let them get to me but I'm not there yet

4. Name 5 blessings you've received this week.

--- My family and I were in the bx and we were standing in front of the vending machines with sodas and drinks in them.  I mentioned that I was thirsty but I didn't want what was in the vending machine.  My husband proceeding to say in a " I just want to please you tone"  What do you want do you want to go in the food court and get something we can go get it just tell me what you want. "  I was being whiny but God has blessed me with a husband who loves me like Christ loves the church and wants me to be happy always.

--This week I talked to my mom and handled it very well.  I did not lose my temper with her like I have done in the passed and I can only attribute it to God

--I have not had any serious problems with my children this week.  Which for us is a true blessing

--I woke up every day this week .  My favorite Aunt passed away about a month and a half ago and that was the first person that I have ever had close to me die.  My eyes are really open to how fortunate and blessed I am to wake up every morning.

--I got to spend some time with my friend who just left today to go back to the states (I live in Japan) She was my closets friend here and I am really going to miss her.  But God allowed it so I had a great husband who put up with dinner late two days in a row so I could have some time with my sisterfriend.

5. Favorite scripture passage.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God....Because I know I have and continue everyday but God still blessed me with his grace

 6. Who in the Bible do you think you are most like?

I don't know. I have not read the bible all the way through so I just don't know.  I try to be like Jesus as much as I can.

 7. The passage of scripture you last read was?

Romans 3:23 cause I wanted to quote it right

8. Have you ever praised God for something weird?

--I don't think anything you praise God is weird because " all good things come from God"

9. If you were making a greeting card to God, what would it say?

--It would say...There are no words that can come close to thanking you, for sending your son Jesus, to die for my sins, and the rest of the world to.  With that being said theres only one thing I can do, Sit and be still and always wait on you.

10. What is the best miracle that God has performed in your life, or your favorite answered prayer?

--there are two that just recently happened my husband in the past year has rededicated his life to Christ and has just become an awesome man of God.  The other one is that he has allowed me to bring the children "out of the trenches"( that is what I lovingly call public school) and homeschool them.

11. What is the most fun thing you have done lately?

--Last Sunday we (my hubby and 3 kids) went bowling for the first time as a family.  It was so much fun I want to do it every week

 12. How did you choose your screen name?

--It is my yahoo screen name too Poohswife3  Pooh is my hubby (don't tell him I told you) I am his wife and we have 3 children

Now, I‘m supposed to tag 5 others but I wasn't tagged so that would be silly.  Anyone who wants to copy and paste and let me know your doing it so I can come and read it.  You learn so much about people by reading these things.

Aug. 29, 2007 - Lord give me strength

So I was not going to post until September 4th but this mornings recent events have led me here.

I called my dear mother this morning and we had the talk.  (Not the "birds and bees" I have given birth to 3 children if I don't know how to make them by now I am never going to get it.)  We had the homeschool talk.  What is the homeschool talk you ask well it goes like this:

(My mom talking on the phone to one of the children)

Mom:  So are you ready to go back to school?

Child:  We are going to be homeschooled this year.

Mom:  What!!!!!!

Child:  Mommies going to teach us at home for school.

Mom:  Let me talk to your mother!!!!!!!!!

My child hands me the phone (mic: we use the computer to call back to the states)

Mom:  What is that child talking about, are you going to homeschool them again?

Me:  yes

Mom: Why!???

Me:  We (My husband and I) have decided to homeschoool them because for one, little Michael did not learn anything last year and......

Mom: Are you going to teach them everyday?

Me:  Yeah

Mom:  Even when you don't feel like it.

Me: yeah

To make a long conversation short we went back and forth I don't even try to explain to her the biblical or spiritual reasons to homeschool cause I been there done that she does not agree and we just end up getting into an argument and I let my flesh take over.  This time I was quite proud of myself I did not get upset I just told her.  "Thank you for caring so much about the children, you are good grandma but we have it under control.

I knew this conversation was coming I dreaded it,  I had sent out an email with the "school" website.  She must have not gotten it cause she never brought it up.  But today was the day.  I thank God he held my tongue because the last time we had the homeschool conversation I was rude and did not honor my mother at all.  I have come to realize that whether she likes it or not whether anyone likes it or not it is ultimately Gods, My husband and my decision and nothing they say or do can change that.

In her defense, when I did homeschool my daughter in the 05-06 school year I did not do it to my best ability.  I was pregnant and miserable and then I had my sweet 'J' and was sleep deprived.  I should have just sucked it up but I didn't and there were some days that she did not have school or she just did worksheets.  My mother was sure to interrogate my DD and find that out.  That is one of the reasons why she is against homeschooling.  I give that to her.  This is my main reason for starting this blog to have some accountability.

She was against homeschooling to begin with so there is some bias there.  In the past 3 or 4 years I have had so much revelation about the world and life.  I want to share it with everyone I know but I have and they have totally looked at me like I was crazy or just told me I was stupid.  Example: The homeschooling thing - I have come to understand that ultimately it is your chose whether you put your children in public, private or homeschool.  So many people feel if you don't put your children in some form of school outside your home you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing.  I didn't even know that you could homeschool before I knew what it was but when I found out you could I jumped all over it.  Okay I am going off my vent this is for another topic.

I'm glad that phone call is over.  I have vented (letting out a sigh of relief)

Aug. 28, 2007 - Introduction to this blog

So this is like my 100th blog.  I start one then don't like it and I erase it.  I am actually going to use this blog to keep track of what I do in day.

Why would I do this?

Good question, thank you for asking.

I have a problem with slothfulness, sluggardness just plain laziness.  Not to mention selfcontrol.  So to keep myself in check I am going to write what I do everyday in this blog for all to see.  When I don't do what I am supposed to do I hope eventually I will acquire some people that will call me on it.  Not to mention my friends and family that will have this blog URL.

What are you supposed to do all day?

Again another good question.

I am a stay at home wife and homeschooling mom.  I feel like I should have the house look like something when my husband comes home.  I should also teach my three children 8, 6 1/2, and almost 2 Reading, riting and rithmetic.      I also feel I should have some form of food (prayfully edible and somewhat tasty) on the table when or around the time my husband gets home.

So my journey begins on September 4th when I plan to begin our homeschool schedule.

To learn more about what type of curriculum I am going to use click the following link

www.geocities.com/thespiritualgrowthacademy

Please all be in prayer with me
