Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - better behavior
|
My kids have been driving me nuts. I went off and bought the Better Behavior Wheel virtual version. It cost me about $13, and I think it is helping. It has consequences on it for specific wrong-doing, and the kid spins the wheel to see what he gets as a consequence. Pretty useful tool, but my kids have messed up so much this week I feel like Attila the Mom stacking up the chores. They earned it though....
I had to change some of the punishments because Rowan Jesse ( who turned 6 on Sunday) is not able to perform some of the things he spins. I gave him his own theme, and for the other themes, I used Biblical commands as titles. I think it is good because the kids have to admit what rule ( from GOD- not just Mom) they broke before they get to spin the wheel. Even though RJ has his own, i still make him say what rule he broke.
Trinity is out doing Army of One- a community service day every week with some from her youth group. She has the following to get done:
1. a day of laundry
2.clean up under and around the porch
3.clean out the fridge
4.complete clean up of _____ ( she picked bathroom)
and is also grounded from artistic expression for a week.
Rowan has the following:
1. BEDTIME 1 HOUR EARLY FOR 2 WEEKS
2. no renting video games or movies for a month
3. has to help Trinity clean the bathroom
4. 2 educational activities of my choice on a non-school day.
5. No tv ( we only use it for movies and games) till noon tomorrow.
6. Bedtime 1 hour early for 2 weeks
Harley has the following...
1. No renting movies or games for a month
2. Dishes for 2 weeks( 2 different offenses)
3.being Rowan's personal helper for 24 hours
4.Bed time 1 hour early for 1 week
5.complete clean up of his bedroom
6. no TV for 24 hrs
7. litter box duty.
In spite of the fact that the kids are still misbehaving, I AM BENEFITING from this thing! I am not yelling as much as I used to. Yes, I yell daily rarely I might even swear. I have been working on it for years! " who will save me from this body of sin?" Thank God for his wonderful provision!
Another benefit- hey- it is quiet around here! I think it just might have been worth the $13!
I decided to give Rowan a whole page of letter H and h practice. I took a page out of his "Crayola Letters and Numbers" book, and he said to me ," But I want to do all the pages!" and I muttered to myself " this isn't going to be much of a punishment if he decides he likes it." I don't know if he heard me or not, but then after I attached it to his clipboard, he said, " Thanks , Mom! I really wanted to do school today!"
Oh those darn home school kids! |
