Career Exploration Days.....

I have just begun to read a wonderful book called "The Checklist", because I wanted to make sure my kidlets were learning everything they should be learning. It is a checklist of all the many things that are usually taught in the schools, based first on their growing in wisdom and stature. Your children will not be able to do all that is included and the author stresses that you should be helping your children grow in the areas in which God has created them to serve, and go easier on the rest.
To quote from this book- " A person should spend 80% of his time doing things that require his greatest gifts and abilities."
That is a very refreshing look at education to me. How many people end up stifling their talents and just doing work that they dislike, all the while, wishing they could be doing something else? Aren't we all happiest and most productive doing the Lord's will? He designed us with good works in mind before we were ever born!
I decided to help Trinity and Harley to explore their personalities and talents, and also their probable spiritual giftings. The tools I am using or this are:
This web site called My Personality Info is a place to take the Jung-style personality test, as well as the multiple intelligence test. I took both tests myself, and here is how I came out:Nancy's Personality Page.
It was a pretty accurate profile for me. So I had them take both tests, and list the career choices that were in common between their intelligence tests and personality test. I also used a book we had studied earlier to get a feel for where God might be leading them regarding His mission or them: Christian Virtues.
I had then go through their lists and put stars by the ones that matched their spiritual gifts quiz in that book. This resulted in a list o several different occupations that would probably suit them.
Today I made a worksheet for them to organize facts about the different career choices. Here's a PDF of that Career wksht
