Friday, November 7, 2008 - Multiple Cats.... and SANITY....

We used to have a cat years ago... and we lost our home. and then our cat had to move to the Humane society.
We finally got another cat ( because it just doesn't seem like home without one) about 2 years ago. Princess is a little bit strange. She was orphaned and bottle fed by a lady who kept her along with her 3 siblings until she was 4, at which point we took her home. She is a brown mackerel tabby with some white on her chin. She has become a little chunky and suddenly after living with us for 2 whole years has decided that she likes us. She is cautious, and sweet, affectionate, but not too bright. She has great fur too. Princess is built like and acts like a tiger at the zoo- laying around a lot.
After we had Princess for about 2-3 months, we walked into the office at our "manufactured home" park and walked out with an adorable gray and white kitten. Harley named her Tinkerbelle. she started out ok, but came down with parasites and had some awful flea allergies that made her go bald in places. Once she ran off for 4 days when she was just about 8 months old and ever since she came back, she has been a wild and scardey cat. She seems to always be sneeking and stalking.... she walks like a cheetah and has that worried expression on her face that they all seem to have. She is also skinny and never really has grown much of a coat due to the fact that one flea bite seems to keep her itchy forever. Or maybe she is just nervous...? She can be companionable... mostly just when she is in heat though...
Oh, yes, I have to stop and say that we have a min pin. A dog that is slightly smaller than the cats and thinks she is a great dane. It's a big dog in a little dog's body. Fiona was raised with a TON of cats, that she played really well with... also some chickens.. but we won't go there...
ok. When we first brought Princess home, this cat( having been raised with a dog the same size) knew how to speak dog. Fiona Jumped at her, and Princess promptly chewed on her throat. They get along pretty well, and often curl up together. Tinkerbelle started out here acting just like Fiona... she watched everything the dog did and tried to do it too. Tinky, learned how to "sit" to get a table scrap.
Princess and Tinkerbelle had a pretty cool relationship at first, but didn't seem to understand each other well. After Tinky became a wildcat, Princess and she tolerated one another, but chose different bedrooms as their hide-outs.
So, Tinkerbelle who was supposed to be Harley's cat, sleeps with Trinity, and Princess who was going to be Trinity's sleeps in my room.
November 2nd was my birthday, and it stunk- I got sick.. it is going away now,, but anyway... Rowan said there was a cat in our yard and that he put it in the car . I had Trinity go out and check.. and confirmed that it was a pretty nice cat. She is a very unusual color pattern, kind of a cross between a tortoiseshell and a tabby. She is rust to copper in most of her coloring, but also has some orange and black stripes. She has no white at all, but a lot of cream. She is young and just so gorgeous. She is what is known as a "patch tabby" She has lighter colored fur in her undercoat making her look a little bit dirty.The tip of her ears and tail are black. She is our "mountain lion". I wanted to keep her, but didn't think it was a good idea. She was skinny, so I let her in and gave her food and water. Later, I put her back out and said that if she came back the next day, we could keep her until her owner was found. I put an ad in the paper the next day and let the people on freecycle know.
I received only one response.... and I don't think she has had a home for a while judging by how thin she is. This is Rowan's cat. He named her "Widget". She has learned her name already.
It took her 2 days to get along with Fiona. I don't know why cats love her so much.... She and Princess can be tolerant of each other, with a few sounds once in a while, and never any contact. Widget has claimed the couch and Harley's bed.... the other animals don't hang out on furniture for the most part.
Tinkerbelle is NOT happy with her. I see more of Tnky now than I have for most of the past year. And I hear her screetching at Widget and they actually DO fight, minorly. Widget does a lot of growling.
I have almost resorted to using the spray bottle on them.. I had it poised to strike at the next cat to lash out with her paw... when FIONA ran up between the two cats and started barking! She has now stopped a fight by herding the new kitty away from Tinkerbelle TWICE and going after Tinky once. This I never expected...... |
