Friday, December 14, 2007 - On My Needles
|
I have been doing some knitting and have not been online a lot (for those of you who thought you saw me on AIM, it was the kidlets using my desktop for school:)
I am working on a baby blankie...... for my new somebody coming in March - I don't know if it is a niece or nephew..
I have a fun fur and denim blue scarf that I am knitting on 15's. I am knitting with the denim blue 2 rows and then every 3rd row adding the fun fur in and using both yarns for one row. It honestly doesn't look striped at all. It looks like I knit the whole thing using both of the yarns. Weird. I would have thought that on 15's it would surely show up, but... it didn't. That's ok, now I know how to make fun fur go farther!

I am going to start a sideways scarf for Raymond's boss today. You use circular needles and cast on like 120 stitches or so, then knit in garter stitch until you like the width, and bind off using a slightly larger needle, so that the bound off side doesn't scrunch up.
I think I am going to make it red, green and white. I have forest green yarn that matches this guy's coat perfectly. Then I will be using a garnet ( well, maybe a bit brighter than that) red with some white. I'll probably stripe it. I wound the red and white together into one ball and then the green and some more white into another one. I don't want it to look too Christmasy..... so I plan on using a lot of green and just a little red. I'll post pictures when I get around to it. |

Monday, July 30, 2007 - Still knitting that "tank top"
|
| Woke up and started working on the tank top. Got the circular needles aligned and decided to drop stitches in the white, orange yellow and blue part of the shirt. Not bad, actually. I was afraid it would be too hot to wear it without some air conditioning holes anyway. Trinity got a new gerbil, a gray one she named Pippo. While she was getting him settled, I was holding our mostly black one- Kevin. He has always been very nice, and sits contentedly in my hand while I pet him. He has bit other people- but I figured it was because they mishandled him. There he was just sitting there, when all of a sudden, he BIT ME! I have 2 sore thumbs now. This makes knitting and typing slightly painful.- ok knitting is VERY painful! I'll have to to work on it later..... Stupid Gerbil! OW! |

Tuesday, July 24, 2007 - Knit Wit
|
I have been knitting a tank top- of my own design- for Trinity. It must be the ADD, because patterns written on paper seem much harder to do than just keeping it in my head. I try to do "zombie" projects as much as possible. That means I can knit without much thinking, and most of this project has been that kind. I cast on 145 stitches in "Peaches&Cream" 100% cotton in brick red. working in the round, I knitted a 5x5 rib pattern. After about 30 rows, I dropped the center stitch in every column of 5. Then I switched to white, added blue, yellow and orange beads at every place I dropped a stitch and picked them back up. I knit 2 rows of white, then went to a verrigated yarn with blue, yellow and orange to match the beads. Stockinette stitch for about a foot, then I messed it all up . I increased, way too many times, but I thought " oh it'll shrink". So I finished it up with a few stripes of that brick red and gave it white openwork straps. It looked pretty. It was too BIG. I even shrank it, and it was STILL too big. It mostly shrank height-wise, which isn't exactly the way I WISHED it would shrink. So I found the spot before the increases and I cut a row out, and now am in the process of frogging and rewinding the yarn to redo the second half of the tank top. Wish I had pictures, but I don't. It DID look neat, with kind of a Western/Indian feel to it. I was so frustrated yesterday I almost gave it to Goodwill. But then I thought, it turned out to be a midriff shirt., and anyone who was wide enough to fit into it comfortably would look awful in that type of shirt! LOL.
Gonna have to work on it again tomorrow...... |
