The purpose of my note is to invite home schooled children/teens and
their parents to become involved as volunteers at the SHARE
warehouse. SHARE is involved in helping meet the food needs of the
communities we serve. We are a non-profit food buying "club" with a
community based distribution system. We are totally volunteer
dependent. That volunteer labor force enables us to offer both
frozen and fresh products at 30-50% off what is normally charged at
the grocery store. Many of our clients have financial restraints
such as single mothers, seniors, the disabled, those out of work, and
even families just trying to stay on a budget. We currently serve
186 communities throughout Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Northern
Illinois and help 21000 people each month.
One week each month we assemble the food orders for the month and
need help at our warehouse to do so. This is a great opportunity for
families to work together and for children to learn the importance of
giving back and helping others in need. It exposes young people to a
work environment, interacting with others they may not know, and
teamwork toward a common goal. It is a practical life experience.
