of writing a research paper, from compiling research and note cards to developing a thesis
statement, outline, and bibliography to writing, revising, and editing. The Six Traits will be
the criteria of effective writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluency,
conventions). Students will do the bulk of the work at home and conference with the
teacher each week to get feedback and guidance. Some class time will be given for work
as well. Students will also share and critique papers to aide in the revision process.
High School Writers Workshop: Introduction to the Six Traits, 8th to 12th grade. 11:15am-
1:15pm. Students will write several five-paragraph essays, implementing the Six Traits of
good writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluency, conventions). Modes include
personal narrative, opinion, compare/contrast, and persuasive, from a list of topics.

process. Therefore, students will sometimes be asked to make copies of their work for
class assessment. Homework: write one essay, critique one essay, and revise one essay per
week, 2-3 hours, depending on the student. Revision begins in Week 3. Bring a bag lunch,
