Chapter 6
The Fight

The minions ran at Wolf Woman. She got ready to defend herself, even if she was totally outnumbered she wouldn’t go down without a fight.

The minions were almost on her when they heard someone yell, “LEO!”

They looked up and saw Robin, swinging down on a Bat Cable towards Leo. Leo moved out of the way just in time, but some of the minions didn’t and were knocked down by the Boy Wonder.

“Nice timing.” Wolf Woman said to her friend.

“Thanks, but I wish that I’d brought reinforcements.”

The minions were all up and closing in on the young heroes.

“Yeah, well, I’m sure you’ll do better next time,” she said jokingly.

The minions jumped at them, but Robin and Wolf Woman were already swinging out of the way on Wolf and Bat Ropes.

When they touched down the minions circled them and waited for the signal to attack, but none came. Leo was looking at El Coyote.

“So, you brought someone else to help capture us, you traitor!”

“No, I didn’t!”

“You thought that there wouldn’t be this many here, so you brought Robin along.”

“No, I honestly didn’t know that Robin was there!” El Coyote insisted.

“I knew that after a year with their kind, you’d change and go to their side.”

“But I didn’t.”

“Yes you did, and there’s only one way to deal with traitors.” Leo said, with an evil gleam in his eye, “Minions, attack and kill him.”

The minions ran at El Coyote and attacked him. “Come on!” Wolf Woman yelled to Robin.

The two Heroes ran to help El Coyote. The minions were already there and they’d cornered him and were attacking from all sides. Robin got down and interlocked his fingers. Wolf Woman then stepped on his hands and he flung her into the midst of the minions. Then he ran over and attacked from the back.

Wolf Woman, after knocking over a few minions with her landing, got in front of El Coyote and warded off the attack.

“Why are you helping me? I betrayed you!”

“I’m a Hero, it’s my job to protect people like you! Besides,” she said, punching a minion in the face, “You were my friend.”

Upon hearing that, El Coyote realized his mistake. Sure, the Legion had offered him a job, but now they were trying to kill him! The Titans, though, had not only trained him, but they cared about him, even though he’d betrayed them by giving out information and helping the Legion to try and kill them. The people he tried to help wanted to kill him, but those he’d tried to kill wanted to help him. These are the kind of people I want to be with. With that thought, El Coyote got out from behind Wolf Woman and started fighting the minions as well.

With the three of them, soon all of the minions were down and out. Then they turned to face Leo.

“Well, it seems that you’ve ‘KO’d’ my minions, very good. Now let’s see how you do with real Legion members!”

Three ropes came down from the rooftops around the alley and the Leopard, Rabies, and the Poacher all slid down them.

“Coyote; get over here where you belong,” Leo called to him.

“No! You tried to kill me!”

“It was a test to see if you could hold them off. We needed to see how you’d handle yourself in battle. You did very well! Now prove yourself again against our enemies!”

“No! I belong here!”

Leo growled, “Then so be it.” With that, Leo and the other villains rushed at and surrounded the Heroes.

“Stay close together,” ordered Robin, “Keep your backs to each other.”

So the three of them formed a triangle facing outward. Leopard got in front of Wolf Woman and drew her claws. She slashed at Wolf Woman, who ducked and swung her leg out to trip her. But Leopard was quick and jumped just in time.

Wolf Woman kicked her in the shoulder, narrowly avoiding Leopard’s claws. She fell back a few steps and Leo jumped at Wolf Woman from the left. He knocked her over and punched her in the face, but she pulled her legs up and kicked him off. She quickly stood up, but Leo’s attack had broken the triangle.

She sensed someone behind her and flipped back over them just in time to avoid Leopard’s razor-sharp claws. When she landed, she kicked her in the back, which sent Leopard sprawling to the ground.

El Coyote ran over to help her and attacked Leo as Wolf Woman pounced on the fallen Leopard. She quickly pulled out some handcuffs and placed them on Leopard, getting scratched on the arm in the process.

She was about to go help Robin, who was fighting both Rabies and the Poacher, when she heard a gunshot. She turned to see El Coyote on the ground, shot in the back by the Poacher.

She ran over to him and pulled him away from the fighting; he was still alive. Then she ran back to help Robin.

Rabies was out cold on the ground, so all that were left were the Poacher and Leo. Wolf Woman went after the Poacher. He was reaching for his gun, which Robin had kicked out of his hand; but Wolf Woman tackled him before he could grab it.

He kicked her off of him, but she’d been expecting that and turned her flying back into a back handspring. During the handspring, when her hands touched the ground, she grabbed the gun, which was right under her. She lost her balance a little, but quickly recovered.

She fired into the air, causing everyone to turn and look at her. “Get out of here,” she said to Leo and the Poacher, “Or I’ll shoot you.”

Leo laughed, “No you won’t!”

“Wanna bet?” She cocked the gun. When Leo sneered and stayed put, she shot him in the arm. With that, the two villains ran off.

Robin quickly cuffed the unconscious Rabies, while Wolf Woman ran to El Coyote. He was breathing in short, quick gasps and looked scared.

“Don’t worry, we’ll get you to a hospital,” she said reassuringly.

“No,” he said weakly, “I think that it’s too late for that.” He coughed up some blood and Wolf Woman fought back tears. “I’m sorry that I… betrayed you. Why…why did you do that? Why did you…protect me? How could you have…done that?”

“You mean forgive you?” After he nodded she continued, “Because I’ve been forgiven. Do you remember some of the lessons I taught the trainees? The ones where I talked about Jesus?” He nodded again. “Like I said in those lessons, I’ve done wrong things against God, so many wrong things. But He still forgave me. That’s why I can forgive you, because I know One who forgave me of so much more. He can forgive you too.”

“I don’t think that He’ll take me.”

“Yes, He will. He loves you, so much that He died for you. All you have to do is ask Him, and He will forgive you.” she paused, “Do you want to?”

“Yes, I do.”

She smiled, “Then pray this in your heart: God, I’m sorry for all of the bad things that I have done. I believe that Jesus died for me so that I could be forgiven. I accept Your gift of forgiveness. Please come and live in my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

El Coyote opened his eyes and looked up and her and Robin, “Thank-you for…everything. I guess I’ll…see you…soon.”

Robin grabbed his hand, “Yes, you will.”

Wolf Woman smiled at him and a tear fell down her cheek.

And El Coyote breathed his last breath on Earth.

Tears flowed freely down Wolf Woman’s cheeks and even Robin shed a couple. He put his arm around her shoulders and they cried for their friend, sad that he had died, but thankful that they would see him again.
