Jul. 20, 2009 - Chapter 8, Part 2 - Entry File: The C.F.M.C.

Mon, Nov 13th, 2056

The next day the three friends were still tired, but hopefully ready for this next day of training. They met each other in the hallway and talked, waiting for any sign of the training that they would go through.

After an hour of waiting, the voice came, "I must say that I’m impressed by you three. You don’t have the best scores of the test, but still an impressive score for each of you."

The voice continued, "We are in need of minions with your skills, so we’ve cut out most of the training. But," the voice paused, "we’ve saved the best for you! Good luck, you’ll need it!" the voice laughed evilly.

They should have been used to it by now, but when the hole in the ground opened up under them they were taken by surprise, and they plunged down into the darkness.

When they hit the ground they were on a hill with an old, crumbling building without a roof on it. The three heroes went over to the familiar-looking building and went inside.

"Is it just me who’s getting the feeling of ‘déjà vu’?" William asked his friends.

"I don’t know about ‘déjà vu’, but this place looks strangely familiar…" Gregory said.

"I recognize it!" Julia exclaimed, "It’s from ‘Lord of the Rings’!"

"Don’t you mean ‘Lord of the Swords’, Vic?" William asked her.

"No, I mean ‘Lord of the Rings’."

(‘Lord of the Swords’ is about Middle Earth two centuries after the ‘Lord of the Rings’, and it was a newer series.)

"You mean that old trilogy?" William asked.

"Yeah, I mean, come on. This place is in both those movies and it makes more sense that they would use the newer one." Gregory protested.

Julia rolled her eyes, "Okay, first of all, it’s not really that old, and second, take a close look at the walls."

The guys moved forward to do so. "What’s here that we’re supposed to see, Vic?" Gregory asked.

"It’s more like ‘What’s not here?’" she said

"Oh, I know!" William exclaimed, "Look," he pointed to the walls, "in the "Return of the Nazgul" (movie #4 in the series ‘Lord of the Swords’), they fight the Nazgul here at Weathertop and to sharpen their swords and arrows they rubbed them against the walls, which would leave markings on the walls, but there aren‘t any."

"Exactly." Julia said.

"So this is from ‘Lord of the Rings’. Cool!" Gregory said.

But they had no more time to talk, for William had walked over to the edge of Weathertop and looked down. Now he was running back exclaiming, "The Nazgul are coming!"

Just then a rack with swords on it appeared in front of them. "It’s clear that for this test we need to fight the Nazgul." Gregory said, grabbing a sword from the rack.

The others did the same, and they turned back-to-back, protecting each other from attacks from behind.

They watched the openings in the walls closely, waiting for the enemy to appear. Then slowly, to Julia’s left, a black hood came into view, a Nazgul, menacingly making his way toward them with his fellow Nazgul following behind him.

The Nazgul circled the three young friends and raised their swords. They stood there for a few seconds, in their menacing poses, then, they attacked.

Swords held high, the three heroes counter-attacked their foes, strike for strike and blow for blow. It was a brutal battle, three-to-one in favor of the Nazgul. Plus, the Nazgul were a pretty good team. One went for Julia’s legs while another swiped its sword over her head, making her have to jump and duck at the same time (not an easy feat).

Soon the heroes were tired out. They had to think of what to do to get rid of them.

"Guys," William said, "cover me, I’m going for that torch!" he pointed to a flaming torch on the far wall of Weathertop.

So Gregory got in front of William to cover him in front while Julia got behind him, covering him from the back. They ran over to the wall with a torch on it, and William grabbed it. Gregory and Julia also grabbed some near-by torches and they all swung them at the Nazgul, scaring them away.

Once the Nazgul were gone, they suddenly found themselves in a dark cavern. At first it stayed dark, but then, all of a sudden, a light came from one of the tunnels, and the heroes heard a roar and huge footsteps.

"The Balroq!" Gregory yelled, "RUN!"

And that’s just what they did. Obviously the object of this test was to outrun the Balroq. They ran through the tunnels of Moria, another place from the Lord of the Rings.

After a few minutes of running through the strange tunnels, they finally found something that looked familiar: the stairs leading to the bridge of Khazad-dum. They ran down quickly and came to the break in the stairs, which they jumped across easily (thanks to their TT training).

Arrows started flying down towards them from orcs and goblins up on top of the rocky formations. One flew down and scratched Julia deep on the arm. It slowed her for a second, but, despite the pain, she kept running.

This Balroq was faster than the one in the movie, apparently, for it caught up with them before they got to the bridge. It cracked its whip in the air and flung it out at them, barely missing Gregory’s legs. They kept on running; the bridge was just in sight. They all quickly got on and ran across the narrow bridge.

The boys made it across first and once at the end they turned, beckoning Julia and motioning her to hurry. She ran as fast as she could, just yards away from her goal.

Suddenly, with only a yard to go, she felt something very hot on her leg. The Balroq’s whip had caught her leg! It wouldn’t let her move forward, and the Balroq was drawing steadily closer.

When it got to the bridge, the Balroq stepped on, but it was too heavy for the bridge and it broke, but not just in one spot, the whole bridge started to collapse!

Julia pulled and pulled to get away from the whip that was holding her back, and finally she decided that the only way to get it off was to reach down and unwrap it from her leg. Taking a deep breath, Julia reached down and touched the searing hot whip. She cried out in pain and untangled her leg.

"Quick!" the boys yelled, "Get off!"

She scrambled as the bridge came loose and started falling. She got to the edge (which had pulled away from where the boys were standing) and jumped. She was just short of the cliff and began to fall into the darkness, when she felt two sets of hands grab hers and pull.

William and Gregory pulled her up and out of the chasm and onto the cliff where they were standing.

"Are you alright?" Gregory asked.

"I think so, but I’m going to be limping for a while from the whip." she said, "Thanks guys, you two saved my life."

"You’re welcome." William said.

"That’s what friends do," said Gregory.

Just then an arrow flew past their heads. "Let’s go!" Julia said, and they got out of Moria.

When they came out they were in a forest with some rock formations all around it.

"Let’s climb up to the top and take a look at where we are." William suggested.

"All right." Gregory said.

Once at the top, they looked around. At first glance it looked like your normal forest, but then something came into view.

"ORCS!" Julia cried out.

"Shut up!" Gregory said, "They’ll hear you!"

"Too late, here they come!" William said.

They fought the orcs here and at other places so numerous that I can’t tell about all of them. They helped fight the battle at Helm’s Deep, fought on horseback against Wargs, fought the Witch King and Oliphants, faced Shelob in her lair, and finally went and helped fight the last battle in the Lord of the Rings series.

When they got back they pretty much collapsed on their beds. They had bruises and scratches (some deep, while others were not serious at all) and, in Julia’s case, burns. But they all made it back in one piece without any fatal injuries.

Before they could fall asleep, they heard the voice one last time, "Very good, new minions, you will all be assigned to a member of the Legion first thing tomorrow morning. Get a good night sleep, in your new job you never know when you’ll be able to get one."

And with that the voice went away. Exhausted, the young heroes fell asleep within thirty seconds of getting under the bed covers.
