"Mucking the Stalls"

Posted in Daily Activities

Yippie...what beautiful weather for mucking out the barn stalls!  And of course relocating the fertalizer to the apple & peach tree and the garden spot.

Our rescue horses are doing quite well now.  Click here for photo

We recieved word of possibly recieving another horse to love.  We are excited and awaiting an awnser.

The principal says we should just open up a "Petting Zoo" with the way our animals are expanding.  After all we do have three very friendly goats (with three more on the way in the early spring)  Two horses with one on the way.  And who knows how many chickens.  We have seven kinds now.

Maybe he has a good idea...

! Too Funny !

Posted in Daily Activities

Well, we found out that nomatter how much you study a subject it doesn't make putting it into practical use easy.   And this is how we found that to be true.

We have too many roosters.  So we (the kids and I) decided we would be "real" farmers. We would fix one up for dinner and surprise Daddy with how we had studied and learned!

And my how we studied.  It sounded so easy on paper!  Well we did as it said and isolated the rooster for 12 hours, very easy.  The next day we once again followed directions and got the rooster by the feet hanging upside down.   So easy!  We had a pot of hot water boiling to dunk him for easy feather plucking.  We were all set!  He had his little eyes closed...was he dead already?  We got a little closer. Yep, he must be dead already we decided, boy this was easy!

As I got ready to cut his neck he opened his eyes and crowed!!!  We all ran like the wind for differant parts of the yard!

Needless to say he is still running around by the barn with the other roosters!

What a Week!

Posted in Daily Activities

We have had such geat adventures and fun in learning!  We have studied the basics of course.  But in addition we have covered many exciting things.  It is awesome how differantly they both learn.  I wonder now why anyone would think you could stick children in a room and expect them to learn by stitting still.  I see now why so many that are for homeschooling say public schools are like rats in a maze.  I don't see how my 8yr old ever sat still in a chair all day. My 12 yr old says she just loves homeschooling.  She is doing work so quickly I barely have time to grade it and log it.

Day Three of School

Posted in Daily Activities

We went to the library and checked out several books on the 'Wright Brothers" to learn more about flight.  One book had differant ways to make balloon motored airplanes.  Such fun!  Don't miss the photos of that!  Last night we got out the telescope and studied the moon for part of our science.  We are studying "creation" with bible verses.

Day Two in Our Adventure

Posted in Daily Activities

At our cover there are many classes offered and being new at all this off we went.  First we had a class on "Underwater Animals" how fasinating!  And the craft was very unique.  Our next class was started with reading about mermaids and then off to the craft room we went.  Nina is making a mermaid.  Victor is making a merman.  So far just the head portion is done.  We have several more visits before we finish.  And we finished off the day with creative writting.  What a day!  Ya know the old saying, "can't teach an old dog new tricks?"   Well this old dog is learning new things every day!
