Choices choices!

Curriculum! Need I say more!? It is time to start the ever daunting task of preparing for the next school year. I think that my granny, who homeschooled me, might have had a tiny bit easier in the choosing of curriculum. Lets see: there was Abeka, Bob Jones, and Rod and Staff. And that was IT! OK, so she was very restricted, but man can it be overwhelming. I think I may go nuts by hte time I get through this! LOL I will officially be homeschooling 3 of the 4 kids this next year. I have looked into the BJU Satelite stuff, and the DVD too! It looks soooooooooo easy! But then I have to stop and think, am I going to pay too much for not enough! I need a little input here! I am a veteran in the sense that I WAS homeschooled for 9 of 12 years of school. But then there are all of you moms who ahve been doing more recently and have this whole other experience to draw from! So give me a shout out on what you all like and why. Give a sister a helping hand! God bless to all!

Oh... I'm so there with you right now... I'll be posting on what I'm thinking of soon, but hubby has said that I need to have a baby first... tee hee...

Just stopping by to wish you a Happy Mother's Day on Sunday! May you find true joy in your children and the blessing of motherhood.

Praise God for allowing us such a wonderful, life changing experience as raising His children!

In Him,
Amy

I was very tempted to try the BJ HomeSat system a couple years back. I decied it was too much to pay for 1st and 3rd grade stuff. Now we're looking at 3rd and 5th graders next year. So far I've been happy just to piece together my own stuff. I've used Horizons math from the start. This last year we actually spread it over a year and a half - it's pretty advanced stuff. We do AWANAS for Bible study. I'm just getting ready to use Diana Warings History Alive...love her! Tried SOS for Language Arts and Geography...requires more of me than I thought it should...but I think it's my 4th grader not wanting to try hard enough. If he likes the topic he buzzes right through and does great though. For all the other stuff I use Timberdoodle.com to find unique and fun elements to fill in the gaps. I found Dr. Aardsmas Spell Drill there and the reading series written by Mennonites is so sweet and wholesome. The kids love the stories.

I see new stuff and want to try it all but I'm happy with what I've discovered on the way I don't need to change. So my advice to you...don't be drawn in by bells and whistles. Asses what you really need, and don't change what's already working just because another company promises somthing different and new.
