Well, here goes!
Meet my main character!
Name: Lydia Mason
Age: 13
Where she lives: on a ranch in Glen Rose, Texas.
Time period: 1869
Hair (color and style): sandy colored. Usually streaming out from under her cowgirl hat.
Eyes (color): bright, snappy green
Build: medium height, apx 5', strong and able bodied.
Clothing: checked gingham shirt with chaps and spurs. A cowgirl hat and bandanna tops it off.
Setting: On a ranch
Traits: she has a habit of wanting to be able to do things herself. She is often found saying things like: 'I can do it....but thanks anyway.' or 'I think I can manage.'
She also has a hard time being looked down upon by other girls who have the required, 'social graces' of her day in age.
Plot:
Lydia's mother died when she was a baby.
Her father is a trail boss, working on a ranch in TX. He had turned her into a tomboyish cowgirl. She could rope and ride and do most everything a cowboy could do.
Her biggest dream is to go on the roundup this summer with her father. Mr. Mason says that she can......IF she can prove herself to the ranch owner, Mr. Matthew Cubbins.
With the help of a few cowboy friends she does this and is off to face the wild, lonesome prarie.
Well......that is what I have so far.....Comments please!

You did a nice job with her physical description and with her big "likes" (as in, she'd like to go on the cattle drive). How about writing a bit about her personality too? I know she's a tomboy, but is she...cheerful most of the time? Determined? Insecure (I doubt it!)? Does she have any "negative" traits she needs to work on? My character has a hard time with self-control. She acts and speaks before she thinks.
I'm so excited to read more about Lydia and her adventures. Your story already has a "problem" and a "plot" (see lesson 1), two of the important elements in a story. I'm also excited for you to join the class. Did you know that I"ll be mailing out certificates to any student who completes the entire course? :-)
And if you PM your address, I'd love to send you a postcard and/or bookmarks of my books. :-)
