How to Earn the Writing Certificate
A student may earn this 8.5 x 11certificate of completion by completing all 16 lessons (also called "16 equivalent weeks), at their own pace. It's suitable for framing which some have done. It is a nice addition to a student's homeschool portfolio. Students must not only complete the lessons, but correct and make revisions to their lessons when asked. Although students are encouraged to begin their own stories during the course of the lessons, it is not required in order to earn the certificate.
Upon satisfactory completion of the Reach for the Stars writing workshop, students are honored on this blog, their names and avatars (or pictures) put onto the sidebar, and a certificate either mailed or e-mailed (if they don't prefer to give out their mailing addresses).
Perhaps you're asking why I do this? The answer is because I'm a teacher, and teachers need students to teach. My youngest son is about finished with his homeschooling career and I have some free time on my hands. I love to read the creative things the students come up with, and I just generally enjoy hanging out with my peer group (uh...yes. The kids. I'm still kind of young on the inside). In addition, to "make a difference" in a person's life is a wonderful ministry and a gift to the Lord.
