Prayer request

I have plumbing problems in the place we rent.  Long story short, when I told my landlord about the problems and asked him to fix them, he threatened to evict me.

The last time landlord and I discussed this, he told me in no uncertain terms he was never going to fix the plumbing, and that he was going to force me to move out by shutting off the electricity.

Today, he did this, and we have no electricity.  Praise God for laptop batteries!  (although even that will only last so long).

I talked to an attorney today and am going to the courthouse first thing in the morning to ask a judge to step in, but by law the judge doesn't have any reason to listen to me for up to 30 days.  Please pray that the judge will be merciful in this situation and that we can have electricity again.

An afterthought:

We're okay for tonight.  It's been warm today, expected to get cold tonight, but I have a little camping heater we can use, and we have a small BBQ that we can cook on.  We'll make it through a night or two with no problem.

September 28, 2006 - What a big creep!

I was a single mom for 12 years and I certainly feel like some men will bully single women, especially if you have children. It makes me sick! What he's doing has got to be illegal, I don't know anything about law, but that just doesn't sound right.

I'll pray for your situation and for better living arrangements altogether!

God bless,
Crystal

You are right, what he is doing *IS* illegal, VERY illegal, and the law provides fairly stiff penalties ('treble damages" which means basically RENT x 3 = what he'll have to pay me). I just want the power turned back on, but quite frankly, getting the money would at least let me move somewhere new. The problem with Montana is the laws are EXTREMELY landlord-favorable, so there are a LOT of landlords with simalar attitudes, although I admit this is the worst I've heard of.

The biggest concern I have isn't IF what he's done is illegal, but WHEN it can be resolved. The legal system can move sluggishly slow, or lighteningly fast, depending on what the judge feels like doing in the morning. He may have mercy on me and instantly order the power back on...he may go technical on me and not hear it at all because I make a mistake on the paperwork. I'm praying he'll be merciful.
