June 18, 2006 - Getting Ready for THE CHALLENGE - Making a Cleaning Kit & More...
There are a few supplies that will help you get off to a great start in cleaning your home. After looking over the list, get everything out that you already have, and then make a list of what you need to get on your trip to the store.
Making a Cleaning Kit: Something you can be working on before the challenge actually begins is a cleaning kit. A cleaning kit is helpful because it's where you keep all your cleaning supplies to clean your home, and will easily fit under your kitchen sink or other specified space (if you have more than can fit in your cleaning kit, it may be time to re-evaluate your supplies). There are a few supplies that will help you get off to a great start in cleaning your home. After looking over the list, get everything out that you already have, and then make a list of what you need to get on your trip to the store.
cleaning kit
case with a handle on for easy carrying rags (old cut up T-shirts are great!)
sponges (scrubbers on the backside are nice)
toothbrush (keeping this in a zip-lock bag will make sure it stays out of little mouths)
roll of paper towels
duster (one on a long handle is perfect for the ceiling, the ceiling fan, bookshelves, etc.)
window cleaner & all-purpose cleaner/germicidal (whatever cleaning products you use)
garbage bags (little ones from grocery stores can hang on the handle of the door in the room you're working on, but bigger ones are better for more junk uh... I mean, stuff!)
Here's a picture of a cleaning kit I made for each of my children. They love having their own kit! I especially love the mini-dusters (all found at the Dollar Store in town)!
Other Items Needed:
other cleaning "stuff" you have the following ready!
vacuum (does the bag need replacing?)
mop (does it need a new mop head?)
broom & dust pan
bowl or pail (for soapy water to clean floor, walls, etc.)
"scented candles" to light after you're done in a room or plug-in air fresner (This is always a nice thing I like to do after a room is all done.)
KEEP, GIVE, THROW boxes / big garbage bags
1 - "Keeper Box" (A tote is great for this, as a bag is harder to go through later. This is what you'll be going through after you clean a room.)
1 (or more) for each room - "Give Away / Garage Sale bag" (make sure they can withstand a lot)
1 (or LOTS of ) for each room - "Throw Away" bags!
A small binder or folder
We'll be putting together an organizer as well so be sure to have a small binder (unless you have one already and then you can just add the forms to it) or a folder to keep the forms in (so they don't get ruined).
A camera (and film if it's not a digital)
Taking "before" and "after" pictures is a great way to journal your experience. If you'd like, get some photo protectors and add that to your binder so you can look back on The Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge with your kids (make sure to get pictures of them helping)!
Be praying for the Lord to be with you as you begin to get ready to clean your heart and home! It won't be long now!
Bless your heart and home, Amy If you'd like to know more about The Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge or how to begin, please read: ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?
