Unschooling
I've been hearing and reading about "unschooling" lately. It seems to be a buzzword in homeschool circles these days. Hate to admit it, but I don't understand the concept at all. If someone is reading this who DOES understand it and can explain it to me or point me to a website with a good explaination, I'd appreciate it!

There are different (unofficial) levels of unschooling. A "true" unschooler will not have a curriculum, but instead will step back and let their child take the lead where the education is going to go. Say if the child is interested in cars, they will let the kid learn everything they want to about cars. The belief is that kids learn better if they are interested in the subject and that they will learn what they need to know. A lot of unschoolers are uncomfortable about being totally hands off so they may encourage a certain route or may leave books, game or puzzles laying around hoping the kid will get interested. Others still will provide some structure but still be relaxed in their methodology. For some unschoolers, it is a total life commentment. They are also hands off on decisions the child makes and in disipline, but for others it only applies to school. Hope this helps.
