I am itching to blog but I won't have the time to do it right for a few days.
We returned from San Diego late last night after a bit of a trying day in the car. Chase was hit with the stomach flu en route which made for a not so pleasant trip.
We had a very nice vacation:
Monday: Ronald Reagan Library followed by dinner with friends.
Tuesday: The Crystal Cathedral (an unplanned stop but since we were driving by it, we had to take a look) followed by Disneyland.
Wednesday: Tour of the USS Midway in San Diego and visit with hubbies' uncle.
Thursday: Visit to the beach with Uncle Al and then dinner at Chuck E. Cheese with my brother, SIL and the cousins.
Friday & Saturday: the kids enjoyed the beach with their cousins. We hadn't seen them since they moved to San Diego 6 months ago.
The "Happiest Place on Earth" proved to be the germiest place on earth as well. We had no fewer than 3 encounters with vomit during our 9 hours at the park and none of it was ours.
Within a fairly short time, Emily had a mild case of the stomach flu and my SILs new couch may never be the same.
Other than that, it was a lovely time. The climate could not have been better, the beach was beautiful, and the kids can now say they've been to Disneyland.
My husband took today off to recuperate from the trip and we took the kids to a fantastic pumpkin farm about an hour away. We returned home just in time to get Alyssa to her Brownie meeting and receive a phone call informing us that my in-laws were able to get tickets to come out from Virginia arriving Thursday morning.
Wow! I knew they were trying to come out in the next month or two but I hadn't foreseen that it would be this week. Later in the evening I got a call from a homeschooling friend. She is going out of town and needs me to take her 2 year old and her 9 year old while her husband works on Friday and then again overnight on Monday and during the day on Tuesday.
School will remain in recess until after the in-laws arrive as much needs to be done in preparation. Now it looks like Friday will be a bust and Tuesday will probably suffer as well.
Add another reason to that ever growing list: school revolves around life instead of life around school. I place a very high priority on school and we will not break for summer until we have finished every course but we have a life and having the flexibility to put school on hold to accommodate it is one of the many niceties of homeschooling.

My Blog

A few years ago, when our oldest was 4 and her two brothers were both in diapers, my in-laws were a few days into a visit from their home 3000 miles away when my father-in-law noticed that the rug under the dining room table was in serious need of vacuuming. He is not prone to domestic duties (his wife is a great housekeeper) but seeing the need, he decided to try his hand with the Hoover. As soon as 'Grandpa' declared his intention to get out the vacuum, four little feet ran for the toy box to get vacuums of their own. We had one toy vacuum and we improvised a second from a 'popper' push toy. The baby, who was not yet walking, was right in the thick of things on all fours, never one to be left out. Grandpa, trying to maneuver the self-propelled 'Wind-tunnel' around the 10 foot rug while avoiding the table legs and dodging his three little helpers, remarked in exasperation, "I just wanted to clean the rug, I wasn't looking to start a three ring circus." Welcome to my life!
About Me
My name is Tiffany. I am a 39 year old mother of 4. My husband, John, and I planned to homeschool even before we married 17 years ago but it would be several years before our oldest would be ready to start on this journey. We had our children in alphabetical order, quite by accident at first, but once we got started, we figured we had to keep it going. They are Alyssa 10, Brendan 8, Chase 6, and Emily 3. Our 4th baby, D, miscarried at 13 weeks. We have no intention of making it to Z.
