Previa Happens..................

..............................evidently again and again.

I went in for my OB appointment this AM and started off with the sonogram. I AM going to upload the pictures later. The moment the picture came up we were mesmerized as the baby proceeded to rhythmically beat itself right upside the forehead with one little hand. It continued to smack itself around while we measured the placenta and graphed its location. It continued to smack itself as we measured its length. It continued to smack itself as we worked our way around the uterus sight seeing.....

I've known in my heart of hearts all along, but as I watched the itty bitty baby on the screen slap itself repeatedly right upside the head I absolutely knew it was a male child. Male children DO these sorts of things; regularly, in fact. Sure enough, a closer look in the area revealed a fairly clear picture of our son. Granted it's still early, and so we're going to wait to do the nursery in cowboys, but I'd say its pretty indicative. I mean, if they're wrong, then our "little girl" has some behavorial issues and a notably extra appendage growing out of her nether regions.

But, yes, on to the bigger point, when all was said and done the sonogram revealed a low lying placenta, affectionately called Placenta Previa. This drastically changes the picture of the upcoming months. I am on bed & pelvic rest now (click here for Julie's hilarious take on previa), but there is time. Time to pack the house for the impending move, make arrangements for the negative possibilities (a bleed, etc.), and believe for the positive possiblities which are for this placenta to move on up, to the east side............

I've heard of this condition Becca, it's apparently quite common, and if you read the Above Rubies magazines they have alot of testimonies of prayer and how wonderous God's healing and protection is during pregnancies. I will be praying here for you and baby.

While it isn't necessarily common, we are seeing a rise in attention to it because one of the thought risk factors for it is a scarred uterus, and we are seeing more c-sections each year. Over 90% of the placentas move up and out of the way in all diagnosed cases, however, last time mine didn't move one inch which my OB says might be indicative of how my uterus is going to stretch and grow in general in relation to the previa. Placenta Previa also highly complicates the delivery (even by section). A recent loss in the homeschool blogger community highlights this.

Normally I wouldn't worry much about, but I've faced this exact situation before and that included a 2 month long bout with hemmorage that nearly cost me my life, and certainly the life of Lionheart whom I was carrying. I take it very seriously, also as it is often associated with fetal anomolies like we saw with Lionheart's misshapen kidneys.

God is definitely bigger than placenta previa, and I'm praying everyday that we will see this placenta shift. We also know, however, that God often takes the trials and experiences of a fallen world and use them to grow us spiritually, and so I also have to be prepared that this might be an experience God will want me to walk and learn and grow from. People called often while I was in the hospital, being prepped daily for a c-section, and pronounced me "healed" of the previa as I bled. I obviously was not "healed" in that sense, but God used it to heal me in so many other ways and to change me as a wife, mother and woman.

Tracing back through my Above Rubies collection is a good idea. I love the magazine & Nancy Campbell's ministry. I sincerely with all my heart appreciate your prayers.... I am believing for God's miraculous medical intervention, and should that not be His will, for the strength, support, wisdom, to walk honorably on the path that lies ahead. Hugs to you!
