Our day

Our day started out kind of crazy. Aaron had a call right before bed last night, leaving him getting into bed at about 1:30 in the morning. We were up late making salsa and hot sauce. He got another call this morning at 7, and the girls woke up at the time. I got them some granola and yogurt for breakfast and curled up on the couch with a blanket hoping to doze a little bit. Didnt happen. Flora informed me she had gone poo. She sure did, and because she cant stay still it was all over the couch, and floor. YUCK! I got some hot water and started soaking the spots and then washed her up. Went out to the shed and got the carpet cleaner. At this time, Andrew woke up, and because I didnt want him in the mess, he stayed in bed, not at all happy. After it was cleaned, and the kids were settled and Andrew fed Aaron was home. He got home and informed me he couldn't find is radio. Keep in mind these are PRICEY (!) and so we went crazy looking for it. EVERYWHERE. No where to be found. Oh no! We kept looking for a while in come pretty strange places. Like on the roof of the shed, in the chicken pen (just incase it fall off when he climbed in to get eggs).....no where. Then we decided to look under the couch cusions...you would think it would be one of the first places we look. haha, it was there. We both breath a sigh of relief and then had a cup of coffee and ate. This afternoon has been lovley, While Aaron worked on the shed (last final things!) I harvested all our carrots and dug some potatoes for dinner. Flora and Andrew helping me. It hasnt been hot and we got a little rain this morning so everything smelled fresh.

Dinner tonight:
Home grown beef roast
Carrots
Potatoes

Everything was grown in this area, we buy beef from a friend in this area. Yummy!

Tonight I am canning the salsa and hot sauce. I wanted to this morning, but, well...that didnt happen! :)

I am also planning our menu for the Feast. Lunches are going to be Mac and Cheese, Sammies and other simple things that are quick and easy. Breakfast will be oatmeal, eggs and fruit. Dinners I am going to have fun with.. The Church has a couple meals planned as a group and We will eat with everyone in our group that is going most of the time. Although I havnt asked people I am thinking we will do a potluck type dinner most evenings. I will make our tradition of Broc Chedder soup one night, I found a recipe for orange glazed chicken that I am wanting to try.  As well as Thai Curry. :) MMM....I am drooling.

That what I have right now. We went into town yesterday and got the girls some new dresses, most of their dresses where showing a lot of wear, so while the stuff is in the canner I am tossing all the worn clothing and putting together out fits for the girls. I will just pack them now, and so the same for Andrew tomorrow.

Trumpets is almost here! I hope you all have a wonderful one!

I had a better picture of Flora, but Photobucket is being a pain and not letting me re size it to fit on here. Its making me a little crabby. Maybe I need to start looking for a new program to use. I dont want to redo my original picture...so....

I am off to make salsa, I bought 30 lbs of tomatoes today. I think I have gone insane, but we will be so thankful when we pull amazing food off our shelves this winter!

Schooling

We are starting school with Clara this year. As soon as we get back form the Feast our school year will start. While she is only 4, she is very ready. She already can sight read all her letter, both "big" and "little" and can reconize a lot of number, knows all her colors, is working on counting and shapes, as well as Bible. We will be working on the letter sounds ( Open Court Reading), weather, calender, Counting, writing, more Bible, cutting and coloring inside the lines. We are very hands on, and count everything and play learning games. Her sit down school time will be about 20-30 mins, and a lot of reading with Mama, we signed up to do Book-It as a reward! :)

We have been trying to get them to help more. A couple weeks ago we had a huge break down when asked to pick up their toys, Clara told me, "you do it" So the toys were put up for
2 days and I kept them busy with me more...and guess what...THEY LOVED IT! No arguments, cheerful and happy. I was also happy because I felt i was getting more done, even though it was taking me longer. I made then "helper aprons" and when its time to clean up we put them on, turn on some fun music and boogy! They love it. :)

Until then we are busy canning, freezing, sewing, and enjoying the last kick of summer! I hope you all are as well!

Busy Fun

While Mom and Mandi were visiting the first time, they drove home my sisters new car, and left Mom's here. The plan was for her to take the train in early Saturday morning and spend the weekend with us. It was wonderful. Aaron picked her up at 12:45 am at the station and we had a relaxing Sabbath, and a delightful Sunday sewing and tidying up the house together. Monday morning she had to head home because she was back to work on Wednesday. The next visit will be the Feast. We did Andrew pumpkin pie on Sunday so Nana could be part of the fun!

Monday was a special day, I got to meet some of the ladies I know from an e-mail group that I have been on for the last 3 years. It was so delightful. We all met at a big park by the lake and ate, and visited for over 5 hours! There were 6 ladies and close to 30 kids! And some family didn't have their who bunch with them. It was so wonderful and the weather was perfect. Monday night one of the ladies (Martha) and her 4 boys came and stayed at our house. I met Martha 2 years before at the Feast, and last year we were also able to get together for our yearly coffee visit in Whitefish, MT. Since we were not going to MT this year for the Feast, I was praying for a chance to be able to visit. It was so nice!

We were blessed with 2 trees full of pears so I have pear sauce coming out my ears. What a blessing! I have been  busy sewing Feast gifts and enjoying so much. We are getting a TON of green beans and my tomatoes are starting to turn yellow. The peas are done, but we are still getting chard and beets. The carrots are a nice size to start eating and my herbs are going crazy. The potatoes are still blooming, so we ought to get a ton of them! I need to harvest my chives, dill, comfery, yarrow and a few other herbs soon.

The Wives
