• Dec. 26, 2009 - The Strength of Friendship

Posted By leeleew
Me and my best friend, Alexa started writing a book similar to the Warriors books. Since most of you probaly don't know what the Warrior books are about so i copied and pasted an explaination from wikipedia.

There are four "Clans" of cats: ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan. Each Clan has a leader, given nine lives and the suffix "-star" after their name by StarClan. StarClan is a group made up of the Clans' spiritual ancestors who give guidance and even prophecies to the Clans. The leader appoints a deputy who will later succeed him or her as leader. Most of each Clan is made up of warriors, the cats who fight in battles and patrol the borders while following the warrior code. Warriors train apprentices to become new warriors. Old or impaired warriors become elders. When a female warrior has kits, she becomes a queen for the duration that she is pregnant or nursing. Kits cannot become apprentices until they are six moons (months) old. Every Clan has a medicine cat, who communicates with StarClan and heals injured or sick cats. Medicine cats gather every half moon to share dreams with StarClan at the  Moonstone (a special stone in an abandoned mine in their forest home) or Moonpool (a special pool at their lake home).. Clan rivalries do not apply to medicine cats, and they have peace with each other, usually helping one another; however, they may not have kits. The Clans also sometimes have a medicine cat apprentice, who is normally trained starting at six moons old to become a medicine cat. Medicine cats can also be warriors who are injured too badly to continue as a warrior, or decide they want to be trained as medicine cats. This does not often happen, but it has, as is the case with some of ThunderClan's former medicine cats: Cinderpelt, because she injured her leg, and Jayfeather, because he is blind. Yellowfang, a former ShadowClan medicine cat, became ThunderClan's medicine cat because Brokenstar changed ShadowClan so that she did not want to go back. Since she was trusted by most as a new ThunderClan cat, and the only cat in the Clan with medicine cat training, she assumed Spottedleaf's role after she was killed.[4]

The cats in the Clans also have a special naming system. When a kit is given his/her name, it will end in "-kit," for example, Bramblekit. When a kit becomes an apprentice, during the ceremony, the leader will change the word "-kit" to "-paw," for example, Bramblepaw. When an apprentice becomes a warrior, the leader, with the help of StarClan, chooses a permanent ending of the name (-heart, -stripe, -pelt, -fur, -claw, -foot, -tail, – talon, etc.,)for example, Brambleclaw. When a deputy becomes the leader, StarClan performs a ceremony, in which the new leader must travel to Highstones (an abandoned mine at their forest home) or the Moonpool (lake home) to share dreams with StarClan. During the ceremony, the leader receives nine lives from StarClan and the name ending of "-star". An example of this is when Fireheart becomes Firestar in the first series, or Leafdapple of SkyClan becoming Leafstar in Firestar's Quest. Any cat in the Clan has the right to become the deputy, as long as he/she is a warrior, is not nursing kits, and has had at least one apprentice.

In the forest, the cats must live together with the world of humans around them. This allows interaction between the two species. One notable example of this is when humans, called twolegs by most of the cats, begin constructing a new road and houses, and the four Clans are forced to leave and find a new home. Beyond the Clans' territories lies a mountain range, inhabited by the Tribe of Rushing Water. The Tribe is shown to be similar to the Clans, yet it follows a different set of ancestors, the Tribe of Endless Hunting. In a town near the Clans' old home lived a vicious group of cats called BloodClan, led by a cat called Scourge. Also, living in the surrounding areas are cats without owners or Clans, known as loners and rogues, and house cats, called kittypets.

Just remember that this is an explanation of the warriors, and our book is a little diffrent like there is no Scourge or Tribe of Rushing Water, and the cats do not make the great journey. But the cats do everything else the same, like patroling borders and hating twolegs. Since you know have an idea what the book is i will post the first chapter!

p.s. in our story the medicine cats meet at the Crystal cave.

• Saturday, December 26, 2009 - Pillowcase

Posted By Amy
Yesterday I got out my rotary cutter, my mat, my square ruler, and a bunch of fabric scraps. The plan was to make a doll quilt. I didn't know what I'd do with it, but I wanted to make something... Soon I had a nice stack  of 3 inch squares. Some were old nighty fabrics, some from jackets mom had made, left overs from dresses we had made and a few more.

I arranged them into strips and sewed them together. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures... Then I decided that it was a little too small so I took some left over fabric from a dress we had made for Emily and cut out a border. I Alison what I had done so far and she said, "You should make that a pillowcase!" I did need a new pillowcase and I thought it would be a cute one so I decided that there would be no doll blanket after all. After asking mom what she thought, we decided that it would be best to sew it on to the top of a pillowcase we already had. After ripping out the seams in the pillowcase and sewing and sewing and doing more sewing, we had this:

Mom gave me a green pillowcase we had sitting around (we bought it because we needed the sheet to back a quilt) to sew it onto. I asked her if I could have the other pillowcase in the set too so my pillows would match and she said yes. It's too bad that the other sheet in the set is too big for my bed... I might attempt to make it fit anyway... :-) This is my favorite square on it. The fabric was a leftover from this year's summer nighty.

The only problem is that I have two more pillows that don't match... My next project is... Well, I haven't decided but I'm hoping I'll find something soon.

• Dec. 24, 2009 - No Homeschooling, No Christmas for the Johansson Family

Posted By Gena Suarez, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
As you celebrate Christmas this year, please remember all the parents who are still fighting for their right to homeschool, and for parents who have had their children taken from them by force without just cause because they homeschooled their children--like the Johansson family of Sweden. This Christmas we can rest easy knowing that the gifts that we bought for our children will help further their education or offer a new way for your family to have fun together. The Johanssons have been denied Christmas with their only child, and so much more.

• Dec. 23, 2009 - Homeschooling Through High School ~ Merry Christmas!

Posted By HomeschoolBlogger Company Blog in Homeschooling Through High School
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

I want to share a couple of video clips which I located on YouTube...they are from a Public Television show that I have seen many Decembers over, titled, "Rick Steve's Christmas in Europe." These two clips share my favorite parts of the show.  I love the peacefulness, the simplicity, and the picture of the family generations coming together.  I hope you enjoy it, too!

Rick Steve's Christmas in Europe ~ Part 9

Rick Steve's Christmas in Europe ~ Part 10

May God bless you and your families as you focus on the beauty of God's plan for His children, and all that "Emmanuel" means to you.

This blog is not anything. It is where I scream and be random. That's not what I'm really like, and I don't want it on my normal blog cos it would make me seem like one o' the people who declare they are crazy and spout unintelligible nonsense. So this is where I type anything that comes into my head without it being um yesh. Y'all get it.
