My new fabric softener!
I have been making my own laundry detergent for the past year or so.   I even scent the detergent with essential oils.  Lavendar for the bedding, rose for Bun's clothes, no scent for me and my dh.   I hated to give up fabric softener because I really dislike hard scratchy towels and stiff jeans.  So we lived with the stiffness until last week when I read about white vinegar being good for rinsing the soap out of your laundry and softening it.  I did a load of towels and gave it an extra rinse with the vinegar added.  What a difference!  Soft and no smell except freshness.  I have a load of jeans in now and will add ivinegar to the rinse cycle.   I'll let everyone know how it turns out!

Apr. 21, 2009 - Loving the laundry soap...

Posted by MomandMagistra

I had to laugh, because I just wrote about laundry soap today, too, and specifically that I never thought I'd get into making it -- but one batch, and I'm hooked! My clothes are just as clean, and I do the vinegar rinse thing, too -- when I remember! ;-) There is just something so satisfying to do for onesself sometimes....I try not to get caught up in the "me" aspect of it, and give God the glory. Can you say, "Praise Him for the invention of borax and washing soda?" Probably....

I haven't taken the plunge into home made laundry detergent yet, but I think I'm on my way! LOL! I have finally made homemade dishwasher detergent and it works GREAT!

My biggest problem is that I don't like powder laundry detergent because it has always left residue on the clothes and in the drawer/machine so I use liquid and the homemade liquid recipes I have found are much more complicated to make!

Maybe I should try the home made powder and see if the problems go away? I did stop using fab con about a year ago after reading an article about all the carcinagenic chemicals that were in it. So I ran and checked out bottles here in the UK and found that they don't even list any of the ingredients and I couldn't get them on any of the company websites either!!!!! If they won't even tell me what is in it - I'm REALLY worried then!! I got some spikey balls and use them in my dryer and they make the clothes and towels quite soft so even my fussy hubby didn't complain.
