Wanting to Make a Difference
Dec. 21, 2007
First Entry
Well, this is my first entry. My husband thought it would be a good idea to write of our homeschool journey. What works, what doesn't. We are currently using a computer curriculum with our dd 5th grader and some workbook pages with our ds kindergartner. I have felt lately that having the curriculum on the computer is distancing her from us. We send her to her room where the computer is and I feel like I'm sending her to a dungeon! I thought this would be wonderful considering we are starting the kindergartner and would need the extra time. I find that since I don't keep up with reading what she's studing like I should that when she needs help I don't know what she's talking about. I don't think we want to go where there is no structure, but a lot less than what we are doing now. At the same time, I still have the "school" mentality where I'm afraid what she'll be missing if we don't continue with the curriculum.

Dec. 21, 2007 - Welcome

Welcome to HSB. One great thing about homeschooling are the choices available. I wish you well as you investigate your options. Our family uses a unit study approach for ms ds-6 and dd5. Who knows what we'll use by the time they're upper elementary like yours. The cool thing with the unit study approach (we use Weaver) is that I can work with them together on some subjects, just requiring different levels of work and comprehension. Our combined subjects are Bible, social studies and science. Then our handwriting and creative writing are similar too, based upon what we're studying.

Anyway, welcome and Merry Christmas

Robin
