Dec. 8, 2008 - A Tour Through Bethlehem

We heard about a little Christmas festival in a neighboring town and had to check it out.  What initially caught our attention was the "Live Nativity" that my friend described.  But we didn't know that it was a festival that included ice sculptures (which we didn't get to see), a holiday version Saturday market, bands playing Christmas music and just an all-around festive atmosphere.  Here are the girls sitting on Santa's lap in the market

What always cracks me up is that the girls can never think of a thing that they might want for Christmas so whenever they sit on Santa's lap and he asks them what they want, they usually say something like "I don't know".  I don't really think Santa knows what to say to that.

After checking out the market with all the cute, homemade goods we all went to a lovely Italian restaurant and had dinner.

So then we had to check out this living nativity thing.  A local church puts on a "tour of Bethlehem" each year.  It was much more than a living nativity!

We  got there and they give all of us 5 shekels.

Mary and Joseph showed up and we headed to Bethlehem where we paid our taxes and signed the census.

These guys were handing out bread.  I love this little shepherd guy

What would a trip to Bethlehem be without some hot chocolate

...and a camel
