*~*~God is so Good~*~*~

• 10/9/2006 - narnia and lotr

I know that this post is probely going to tick a lot of people off, but I feel I have to share this.

I believe that God has shown me that Narnia and LOTR are evil. Mostly because of the magic/negative elements in them. Magic is bad. There is no good magic or a good way to use magic. Show me where in the Bible it say's do only good magic, and I will show you where it says witchcraft is evil.

Ezekiel 13:20
....Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against your magic charms...

 Acts 19:19
Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver.

Deuteronomy 18:10
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,

1 Samuel 15:23
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king.”

Genesis 44:5
Is not this the one from which my lord drinks, and with which he indeed practices divination? You have done evil in so doing.’”

Ok, so the Lord hates magic. In any way, shape or form. If you are still not convinced that fiction books with this kind of thing are bad, think of it like this. if miricales are done by the Spirit of God. Then  isn't it fair to say that magic is done by the power of Satan?  Now I know that sometimes conforming to the Word is really hard and takes lot's of effort and you might be able to do things you once did, but God will give you stength to stop doing whatever it is that is unpleasing to Him.

Well...I think it depends on how you look at it. I can't decide. I do think that you have a point on that...but I can't disagree because I like Narnia and LOTR. I think Narnia is fine because it's the story of Jesus. I do disagree w/ Harry Potter though. Does this mean that we can't be friends because I have a Narnia blog?? I hope not.

What!?!? LOTR and Narnia are NOT evil. Do you know who wrote those books? Probably the best christians of the last generation! If you've ever read "Finging God in The Lord of the Rings" you'd disagree with yourself. And Narnia is basicly the story of Christ!

~Curufinwe
P.S. Sorry if I offended you, but those are the best books (besides DIOM) in this generation! They're the only novels that even hint anything about god these days. I'm surprised that non-christians even let them be sold!

Hi!!! I'm back and I had a great time. Okay, I'm going to have to say, I dont agree with that. I think that C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolken are very good Christians, and I love those books/movies. I still love you to death;-). Thanks for tagging me, I'll get right on it.

hi Alycia, thanks for stopping by my blog, as well :)
I dont think LOTR and Narnia are the same. now, Star Wars and LOTR are the same. but Narnia has SOME good pointers. I don't like alot of it, but, I mean, hollywood can NEVER stand up to Gods standards. nothing can and nothing EVER will. am I making any sense at all? Im not making any excuses for Narnia at all. Im just TRYING to make a point. TRYING. if Im not making sense, email me or post a comment, please :)

I think God tells someone that they don't need to do something or that something is not good for them and tells someone else that something else that is not good for them.If God told you something then obey him. There are some things that God does not want anyone to do.I hope I was of some help even if you didn't need any.

....I know I'm not as old as you, therefore less experienced, but I must say I disagree. That is not, more or less, common on my part, but that is not to say that it, 'ticked me off'. I have read the Narnia books and 2 and a half of the LOTR books, and seen the movies, so I'm not making a blind statements here.

Reason A: Yes, both of those books include witchcraft, and yes, our Savior is VERY clear about witchcraft and what those who practice it will come to, but please take into consideration that the evil was also conquered with sacrifice (though each series exhibit different kinds), therefore symbolizing the triumph of Good over Evil.

Reason B: If Satan represents witchcraft, as you suggested, then is it unreasonable to say that in the obvious display of Good over Evil, it could be said that, if you read between the lines, the deeper meaning that the authors may have unwittingly put there, the end result to the Devil will be cast into the lake of fire, thus ending witchcraft and everything accotiated with it. Do not both series have the conquering of Evil? Do not their worlds return to Good? Please question your reasoning. While some parents would not like their children to read these books, and they discuss witchcraft, the books show it as a good thing, they show it as a bad think, something to be ended, destroyed, and just because the parents do not want their kids to read them, that does not classify them as 'evil' . I hope I made sense to you, as I was just trying to get my point across.

Thank you for reading this, Alycia. God Bless you!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST! In Reason B, when I said, "they show it as a good thing, as a bad thing" what I meant was, "They DO NOT show it as a good thing, as a bad thing" Typing error, I apologize. I DID not want any misunderstanding about it, you know what I mean?

Thank you!
God Bless!

Here's just a snippet from an article about C. S. Lewis from a very informative sight-
"Something else that is very disturbing is that C. S. Lewis was not only quite familiar, by his own words, with the occult, but he even said that he had to get into the devil’s mind to write the Screwtape Letters, a book in which he describes the devil’s thinking and strategy. Although, such practices might be used by someone who proves God’s existence by logic, they are not the kind of activities and study that would be engaged in by someone who knows Jesus. Great Christian minds have no part with occult phenomena.

There are other writers today who claim to be Christian, but display a deep and thorough knowledge of the occult and all its workings. How can this be? A man cannot serve two masters, nor can he know Jesus and the devil intimately.

So, here we have a man who argues the existence of God, is involved in the occult, and writes occult books for children. Should we be surprised? “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” James 2:19."

the entire article can be found at: http://www.keepersofthefaith.com/BookReviews/BookReviewDisplay.asp?key=4

they also have articles about Tolkein and evn LM Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables)
There is some good information there...
and lots specifically about the Narnia books,
"Although adults are often discerning when they read, children seldom are. Hence, fictional children’s books can be a very dangerous commodity. When there are poisonous philosophies in a book, they are generally woven into an exciting story. The child is enthralled with the story and swallows the philosophies without knowing that they are even there. If you are trying to rear good children, and you are seeing atypical results, check what your children are reading. It is there that you will usually find the problem."

There are other sites out there with quotes from both C. S. Lewis and his son, or step-son, I can't remember, stating that the Chronicles of Narnia were never meant to be christian allegories, but rather christians read that into the stories... there was a lot written about that fact when the movie came out, but not in christian news... the secularists out there know that the books aren't really christian...

Anyway, I know it's a contentious issue, it's not ground I need to bleed over so I'll leave it at that. I'll discourage my children from reading the books or seeing the movies, and I'll tell others why, but it is up to individuals to do the research and make the decision themselves, I just hope it's an informed decision and not just the status quo decision.

have a good one,
ali

• 10/23/2006 - From a Mother

My daughter reads your blog and we were discussing this post. I would not wish to force my opinions or thoughts on something that perhaps you and your mother both believe. It would be overstepping my place as a mother myself and I would not wish for anyone to do that to my own daughter.

My thoughts though, vary from your own and I thought that perhaps you and your mother might enjoy reading this thorough article together and discussing it: http://www.christianfantasy.net/sdg1.html

I also recently posted on The Lord of the Rings having just finished reading it for the third time. Here is my recent post: http://homeschoolblogger.com/UndertheSky/225433/

Feel free to read it with your mother. I am not trying to convince you one way or the other--and I am not looking for debate. I would hope that if you do read it you do so together. For often mothers have a great deal of wisdom into things that your young life may not have given you experience with yet. (Thankfully!)

May God be with you and your mother today!

Warmly,
Mrs. Kessler

Hey! I think it is really great that you have an opinion like that! I don't nescesarily think that you are right, but it is obvious that you did a lot of Biblical reserch. I think everyone should have an opinion on certain things!
Anyway, I really think that you have a great saying on your blog!

• 11/21/2006 - c.s. lewis a christian???

Posted by loyal_to_him
I have done much study on c.s. lewis and can see he has a "form of godliness" but never gave up his occultic practices, as for narnia being "the story of Jesus" this was lewis' intention to draw the people in, take a look at the following article written by an ex-witch but now born again, saved by the grace of our Heavenly Father. Alycia, i'm glad you're standing for the truth, there will be many in these times that will persecute you for doing so, take hold of Gods word and don't let go, He has many blessings waiting for you in Heaven.
