Violin Tag

Here is a violin tag that I made up.

What made you want to play the violin? When I was two years old I got to hold a friend's violin and "bow" it. Ever since then I wanted a violin. In fact, I wanted one for 9 years before I got to take lessons.

How long have you been playing the violin and how old were you when you started? I started taking lessons in May of 2005. I was 11 then. A few years before then I had borrowed a violin or two from friends, but didn't ever really play them that much -- I had no teacher back then and really didn't have much interest because I didn't know how to play it.

Are you currently taking lessons? If so, are you using the Suzuki method, some other method, or no method? Yes, I am taking lessons. When I started taking lessons in 2005 my teacher used the Suzuki method, but since then I have changed teachers and now I'm not using any real method, but working on lots of different pieces at my level.

At what level are you? Well, when I "quit" Suzuki I was in books 4-5. But I didn't really "polish off" the pieces before that. Right now I'm playing at about that level, but my teacher is very thorough, so I'm learning to really polish my music, which I wasn't doing before.

What is your favorite piece that you can play? I think I like Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in D minor best, but I like it a lot more if I have someone to play it with. Right now I am polishing the first movement and learning the second movement.

Do you practice daily? Every day except Sunday. And I might not practice while I'm on vacation.

Tell about what you do during your practice sessions. For how long do you practice? I start off my practicing with scales. After that I practice two different pieces from my Kreutzer book with at least two bowings. Then I practice two or three of the 4 (?) pieces I'm working on right now. I am required to practice at least a half and hour everyday, but I always go over that unless I'm really in a rush.

Do you like practicing? It depends. I go through phases of loving it, liking it, and not liking it much at all. It changes about everyday.

Do you own your instrument? I do now. I bought my violin brand new in April 2006. Before that I had rented two different violins.

What size is your violin? Full size.

Who is the maker of your violin and of what is your bow made? My violin is a Franz Junger, and my bow is made of carbon fiber!

Are you currently in an orchestra? No. Right now I'm in our church's "orchestra", but I'm the only one in it, so that doesn't really count!

If not, do you wish you could play in one? YEEESSS!!!

Do you play or own any other musical instruments? If you play any other musical instruments, do you take lessons for them? I play the piano and some on my recorder (I haven't practiced that in AGES!) but I don't take lessons for either.

Whom will you tag? iamsimplyme and Morgangirl003
