Recently our Pastor (my dad) challenged each family in our church to try to get out twenty tracts out per week. Well, this morning I noticed a man and a woman talking to each other on the street in front of my house. They were a little ways away from the house, and a little bit down the street and appeared to be in deep conversation.
The first thing I thought was, We should give those people a tract! I was going to go tell my mom that there were two people standing outside on the street so that she could run out there and give them a tract, but she was busy right then and I kind of forgot about it, until I kept looking out the window the next fifteen minutes or so and they were still out there. Well, I finally told my mom about it and asked her if she would go give them a tract. She, of course, suggested that I go out there and give them a tract. If any of you have watch The 8 Reasons video, you will know what I acted like when I heard that (I recommend this video -- however, I must say that while it has great content, the background music is worldly and I do NOT recommend that part of it).
Well, anyway, "No! I'm afraid!" I said. I put up a big thing of "I can't" and basically what Shane in the video did. :o) Of course she asked me what I was afraid of. Finally, though, I ended up looking for two tracts (and because I couldn't find what I was looking for right away, I'm afraid I didn't have the greatest attitude). And I was still wishing my mom would come outside and give them some tracts. Finally I got some tracts and my sister Elisabeth and I went down the street to give some tracts to them. Do you know what I found out? It is NOT THAT SCARY to go up to a person and say, "Excuse me; I just wanted to give you something." They usually don't say, "GO AWAY! I WON'T TAKE THAT STUFF!" Even if they don't want it, they still are polite. And these people took the tracts that I offered them! And they were very friendly. And then I felt so happy that I had actually conquered my fear and given some tracts to them. Hopefully I won't be "afraid" next time I have an opportunity. And do you know what? If I can give a tract to someone, you can do it too!
