Field Report
A while ago I posted something about giving some people a tract. Well, lately (and I don't know how it has happened), but just about EVERY time I see someone, one of the first things that come to mind is, I should give that person a tract! followed by dread and thinking, Really? Do I REALLY have to? Lord, are you SURE you want me to give that person a tract?! or something like that. Well, the good thing is that I have only missed a few people that I have felt should have been given a tract. Of course, I can't walk through Wal*Mart and hand out tracts left and right (whew!), but I can give out tracts to most everyone who walks down our street.
This morning I saw the man who lives across the street outside working on his car (or something like that), and I felt that I should go over there. So, after asking my mom for permission to step foot on his property, I bravely walked across the street with a tract in hand. I was expecting the man to be really gruff and either say, "Okay, thanks," or "No, thanks. I don't want that." Was I ever wrong!!!! He greeted me with a very cheerful, "Good morning!", and when I gave it to him, he was still very friendly! As I turned to go back to my house, he asked me, "Are you the one who plays the violin?" Apparently he has heard me practicing with the window open. I informed him that I was, and he told me that he used to play the viola! So I learned that a man that I thought was a mean hermit was really a friendly old man that even used to play the viola. See what you learn when you obey the Lord and give someone a tract?
Ironically, my friend Rose just posted on this very topic! Check it out!

Hi! Thanks for the comment. I am glad you are also passing out tracts! It can be a real blessing! On our trip I had the opportunity to leave tracts in several different places~ restrooms, rest stops, hotels, resturaunts, ect. I was thrilled, because at a rest stop we went in to use the restroom and I left a tract in there. Later I went back in there and saw that the tract I had placed in one of the stalls had been moved over by the sink! Someone must've at least glanced through it! I also enjoy going to our library and putting tracts into different books ~ mainly in the adult section.
Thankyou for making a link to my post~ I was surprised to see that I already had THREE comments on that entry! That post was also a hurried one.

Friday, October 19, 2007 - Elsie Dinsmore

Hi Alison!
As a fellow believer, I consider you my sister in Christ, so don't take this comment the wrong way. I'm not trying to upset you or anything. I just want to defend my position.
I disagree with your opinion of Elsie Dinsmore. As I said in my post, disliking the books because she is too perfect is disliking them for the wrong reason. Elsie is a model for girls of Christlike character. There may not be another girl in real life like her, but she is a model, an example to follow, like Jesus was an example for us. We should praise any godly example in the world because all good comes from God.
Im not sure what you mean by saying the books are too romantic. On the contrary, I dont think they could be classified as romance books at all. Elsie and Mr. Travilla do not even kiss until they are married, and even after theyre married, theres nothing bad or mushy about their relationship. If you mean that Elsie is an affectionate girl, thats true. She loves her father and shows it. But that is godly! Girls should love their fathers. Being emotional is a feminine characteristic, and femininity is godly.
Sorry for the length of this comment, but I wanted to try to explain where I stand. If you don't like the books, okay then, but I do. We can agree to disagree. :-)
Love in the Lord,
Mandy
