Yay! A New Outfit!
Today I finished a jumper that had been in the works for a little while. Somehow it seemed that there was nearly as much cutting and ironing as there was sewing, and that may be true! I don't know. I do feel more confident about sewing buttons holes now, though, after sewing twelve all the way down the front of my dress!
I was pretty picky about this jumper. First I spent a long time in the fabric store trying to find a print that I liked well enough to make a jumper out of it. The later, when attempting to pick out buttons without my mom's help, I didn't get enough, so she bought some other ones for me. I didn't think I liked those as well, BUT, I do!
Close-up of buttons and print.
So what do you think? Are you inspired to start (or maybe finish) a sewing project? It really is nice to have a pretty new outfit to wear!
Thanks,
Mom, for all your help in making this jumper!

Congratulations--the dress looks wonderful! It is, in fact, inspiring me to start working on my historical dress for our fast-approaching reenactment.... :-)

Your new jumper is beautiful. What a lot of buttons. I'm glad you showed a close up of them. They are very pretty flowers.
Some sewing projects do seem to have a lot of ironing, pinning and other associated 'needs'. :)
It is nice to visit your blog.

Hi Alison!
Great job on your jumper! I've never made button holes, I've just sewed buttons on. Enjoy your new outfit!
Love,
Amber
P.S. How are you all doing over there? Getting over your colds? We think Anna's getting a cold. :(

I got the screen to 800 by 600...but unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to get the template looking right at that resolution. I'll keep working on it, but in the meantime, sorry for the sloppy look (and also for all these comments... :-D)

Hi Alison,
I like the way you have your name and AZ added together. Very creative!
YES, you have been on my Friends list and I was wondering, 'Hmm, who is this?' I started blogging back when HSB was really new but I could not always get things to post so gave up for a long time. Then I was sporatic.
I started back up a month or two ago and it seems to be working much better. I also had to learn a lot of 'how to's' about photos, buttons, coding etc. I still am not where I can make my own template but I'm trying. ;)
I think I 'found' you last night from someone else's blog. I've commented on your sister's blog lately. I'm starting to make 'connections' about who is related to whom.
About your question, I would like to say I sew. I used to sew in jr. and sr. high and bit after. I did make some vests in the late 90s. Alas, my machine is hard to use. My mom gave me the machine she didn't like either. Frustrating!
She passed away and I inherited her 1950s machine which she and I love but I haven't tried it out. It is a Singer and is hand cranked. I like it because it is easy to control and doesn't take off like a mad monster at mock (sp?) speed. I learned to sew on it. My mom preferred it to the electric machines too.
A homeschool mom friend of mine gave me a machine she likes but I've never used it either. That last sewing experience was really a hard one. It turned out the machine needed a $60 overhaul. How costly. I kept reading the manual and trying to adjust the thread. Aaah...it was very hard going.
I hired a dear lady to make Joy's patriotic dress in the photo sidebar. She did a lovely job.
My dear Mom was a wonderful seamstress. I still have some of the dresses she made me and can't part with them, although they do not fit. She could also knit and crochet and I have some of those things she made me too. We miss her and my Dad.
I like to crochet and our daughter does too. I was thinking I should have Joy learn to sew. Our neighbor sews and had Joy over to teach her to make a nightgown. Joy liked that.
I am much better at handsewing and embroidery. I like to do that when I have the time. At least I know how my hands work, LOL! They don't normally need $60 overhauls.
Recently, the ladies at church all embroidered squares for a baby blanket. I enjoyed that project and can't wait to see the squares all sewn together for a friend's baby. That family homeschools as well. The theme of the squares was "Cowboy". I picked a cowboy hat to embroider.
Your sewing is beautiful. I know how much goes into sewing and the variety of things that can go awry with the process. I very much appreciate and admire what you are doing and have done!
I type long comments, as you can see.

Mrs. Marie

Hello Alison,
I've been to your blog several times before, but have never commented -- bad me. :)
Thank you for posting picture of the jumper (I always enjoy visuals), and yes I am inspired -- to finish a project I started last year on my birthday (11-30). I'm in the process of making two aprons, matching in material, and one of them I'm going to give away through a giveaway on my blog -- but I'll have to finish them first. Poor things, I started them, but haven't picked them up since. I'll really need to get after them soon. :)
I really like the material you picked out, it has a lovely pattern. :) The dress looks very nice on you.
The buttons are quite cute!
Ah! That piano in the background is beautiful!
Thanks for the comments. :) I always appreciate them, as I know everyone does. :)
Actually, the bread in the picture my momma made, but I have made it a couple times. It's very delicious toasted and buttered. :) Yum, I'm craving it now. The bread is whole wheat bread (we grind the wheat in an electric grinder, it's a lot faster than a hand grinder).
Yes, I did take those pictures, and thank you for the complement. It's always so satisfactory when a photograph turns out the way you want it.
May God Bless,
Emily Rose

Oh, I LOVE the jumper! You did such a good job on it! It looks so pretty and feminine! I really like the buttons and the print. Youve made me want to get back to sewing again! I used to be making a dress almost every other week, but I dont know what happened! (It was calculus ;)
Yes, my mom kind of taught me how to cut hair. Actually, hers was the first hair I ever cut. Then she showed me some tips while cutting other peoples hair.
By the way, I dont think a cake like that would be over-doing it! Id love it! *ά*
Have a great weekend!

Alison,
Oh BEAUTIFUL jumper!!!! May I ask where you got the pattern for it? ACK!!!! That many button holes???? I thought TWO were hard!!! LOL
I'm trying hard to get out of that habit...lol. #1, It's not very lady-like, eh? #2, It gets annoying!!!! Not exactly after every song... maybe once or twice when I play... LOL
Brittany
**edit**
How did you get the time on when they posted the comment? That's so neat!! (I'm probably annoying y'all with all these Q's!!!)

Hello,
Wow, the new dress is really pretty! I like it a lot. I have always thought that fencing sounded neat too, although I have never taken any lessons or anything. I can play chess, but I have to admit it's not my favorite game. I enjoy playing Rummikub with my Mom and Chinese Checkers. We also got a foosball table for Christmas so I play that with her every day!
In Christ,
Christine
