At Home with the Knights

Aug. 8, 2008

Friday night at The Knights!

Ahhhh....Friday night at our house.  Alex and I are watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics now.  The little ones were watching earlier, but they just went to bed.  They were in awe of everything that was going on.  I'm taping the rest of it per Kali's request.  Maybe they'll watch some more of it tomorrow.

Before I entice you with food pictures, let me give you my latest grocery game shopping update.  I stopped back at Walgreens yesterday for more cereal.  Seems as though Alex has already attacked most of it, so I needed to get more.  He must have a cereal addiction or something.  Here's my shopping report.....

Walgreens - Shelf price $19.04.  OOP - $9.04.  Saved 53% plus I'll get another 3.79 back on a rebate and I got another $5.00 coupon for my next purchase.  Which would then make my total spent - coupons/rebate = 0.25.  Dang!

Then I headed back to CVS.....

Shelf price $21.43.  OOP 6.93  Savings 68%.  Plus I got another 6.50 coupon for my next purchase, which would make my total spent - coupons = 0.43!

I now have plenty of toothpaste, about 6 toothbrushes, a few more bottles of shampoo/conditioner, and a few other things that  I can't remember right at this moment.

I'd love to stock up on some more laundry detergent, chicken, and anything else I use on a regular basis.  Hopefully Sunday's lists will have lots of good stuff on there for us.

Okay, since I've been talking about food, let's move on to some food pictures!

Tonight's dinner was pasta and garlic/herb bread. This bread is oh-so very good.

Here's my pasta sauce simmering on the stove.  It was bubbling away at this point.  I made sure I stood back far enough so my poor camera didn't get spit on.

And here's some fabulous basil that I picked from my basil plants.  You can almost smell it, can't you?

It was wonderful in the sauce.  Really, really yummy.  Who needs pasta!  All I wanted was sauce and bread.

And for those of you who can't believe I haven't killed the basil, here it is.  It's getting a bit thick at the bottom; I better go prune it down in the morning.

Okay, I'm going back to watching the Olympics and figuring out my grocery list.  I need lots of fruits and veggies this week - and coffee!!!!

I'm new to this blogging thing, and don't have my own blog (yet) but love reading them. I've really been enjoying yours. The food looks great. I'm not sure I want my family to see it though, they'd be jealous. I have 6 kids and have been homeschooling for 14 years across the country in California, so I've been checking out homeschooling blogs. I'll be back. Btw, your children are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

The food looks great!
The basil still looks good too. Mine has started to die, so I'm staring new plants.
I bookmarked that Grocery Game, but I need to take some time to read what it's all about.
