Soccer = The Best Sport Ever

• Oct. 5, 2008 - An Update

Well, soccer so far has been going well. I’ll start with the girls. We’ve won all of our games so far, and we’ve had 4 of them. The first one wasn’t too hard, but definitely a challenge. I think the score was 2 or 3 to 0. I had about five shots, but couldn’t seem to put any in! :\ Oh, well….. The next game was really easy… I can’t remember the score though- I hardly pay attention to the score any more. LOL The next game was really hard- it’s the best team. I think the only reason we won was that the other team was missing 8 of their players and playing with only 10 people. The score was 1-0. IN the last few minutes, I ran up from being stopper, snagged the ball really quick, took a shot to the far corner, and got it in. I was so happy- I know that my team wanted to keep our unbeaten streak. The game yesterday was easy- but we were also down a player. Katelynn is sick, and Louisa and Sarah couldn’t come- I don’t know why though…. But, within 15 minutes, I had gotten a GREAT pass from Rayleigh and scored and I can’t remember the other goal. The defenders and goalie weren’t very good. So that summarizes our season so far. Now to the co-ed team. There 5 teams in the division, but one dropped out, and moved to a younger division. SO now there’s the best team that will always win, and another team that isn’t so good, and then my team and another team that are about equal- the other team might be better, but we haven’t played them yet, so I don’t know. This team isn’t very important or anything, so I’m just going to skip going over games and scores. Now, about the travel team…. Because of my finger, I am not playing in a tournament coming up this weekend. I wouldn’t be able to go Saturday- I have a game with the girls’. And the first game is early in the morning on Sunday… I might go watch one of the games if I can, though. There’s another tournament that’s in a few weeks, but that weekend I have 2 games for the girls’. And I will not give up playing for them for the guys. I know God does everything for a reason, and there’s a reason that my finger is fractured. Maybe if I went to the tournament, I would’ve been injured even more seriously. I don’t know, but I think it’s all for the best. Next season, my plan is to ditch the guys and the co-ed team and play for the girls, as well as doing an extra technical drill “class”. It would improve my playing skills, and be strict and everything- I love it when it’s really structured and, in a way, not fun, if that’s what it takes to learn and get better. Well, I am going to post about the games next weekend, and practices too from now on. Over and out……

• Sep. 1, 2008 - THE CHAMPIONS- THE CHAMPIONS- WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

I am so happy with the results of the tournament this past weekend. Before I tell about the tournament, I will tell a few rules and some things about my team first. First off, I am on a recreational travel team in a U-14 Boys' division. For this tournament, we were going to be the only rec team in the U-14 boys division, so they moved us down to a U-13 Boys division. It had classic and challenge teams in it. There are a total of 19 players on my team. One couldn't play because he broke his collar bone a few months ago- he is fine now though. Here is how the scoring went:

6 points for a win
3 for a tie
0 for a loss

You get a point for the first three goals you make, and another point if the other team doesn't score at all. The most you can get is 10 points with a win, at least three goals, and a shut-out.

Now, about the actual tournament. It took my mom, brother, dad, and I about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to the fields. My grama and her friend Mr. Dick also came. The first team we played we won 6 or so to somewhere around 3 or 4- I don't remember the exact score. That game was my first taste of a real tournament. It was a good game. The next game was against a super tough team. We tied 3-3. One boy on my team named Zack handballed the ball into the other team's goal, and he got a red card!!! We played almost the whole game with 10 players. Turns out though that the ref should hvae given Zack a yellow card instead of a red card, so he got to play in the next game. We played two games on Saturday, and got a total of 15 points.

On Sunday, only my mom came with me to the games. The first game was against a team that wasn't even good enough to be in the tournament. We beat them 14 or so to 0. I felt really bad for this team, and I think my coaches should have stopped at 6 or so goals. My coach wanted to put me in goal since we were up so much, and I almost scored on my own team when I was in there. It was one of the worst moments of my life- I hated it. Since we beat that team, we had 24 points and went on to the final game later that day against the team we tied the day before. I played a great game- better than the other games- and we won 5-3. I remember now that the ref blew the final whistle, and no one said anything for about 2 or 3 seconds. Then, my team was just cheering and going crazy. It was a great feeling to be able to bring home the first place trophy. Each person on the team got a medal and the team as a whole got a trophy. We went to Dairy Queen afterwards to celebrate. This past tournament was the first one I've been to, and it was a great experience. I want to thank all the coaches for the hard work they do, my parents for taking me to the tournament and the practices, and the players on the team for making my first tournament one that I will never forget.

• Aug. 29, 2008 - Great week and really excited about the tournament this weekend

Man, I am so happy with the girls’ team that I am on. Well, let me start at the beginning I guess. So on Monday, I had my first practice with the girls’ team. It was probably the best practice I have ever had in my ENTIRE SOCCER LIFE. It was what practices are supposed to be like- it was so great to have a real practice for once. On Tuesday and Wednesday, there was no soccer because of rain. :\ Yeah, I was kind of bummed. And then, there had been so much rain the days before, that on Thursday the girls’ team couldn’t have practice. Yeah, I wasn’t so happy about that either. But, I thought of it this way: at least this is happening before the season has started, not during the seasons with games and all. That made it a whole lot better. But, on Thursday, my brother had practice and I had practice with the guys. It was pretty- the fields were soaked though. I landed in a big puddle and so my socks, shorts, shirt, and cleats were pretty much drenched. I felt really bad for our main goalie, Ryan. He was muddy all over from diving and such! LOL I made a stupid move though when I decided to toe the ball when I was playing defense to clear the ball out of our box. One of the coaches that was playing with us was standing right there and the ball hit his chest and went in the goal. I couldn’t believe I had just done that. :\ Today, I had practice with the Wetheads- that’s their name, but we might have to change because we don’t have the sponsor that we have had all these years. But, I don’t know how they got the name, anyway, so who knows. LOL I am really excited because tomorrow and Sunday, I have a tournament with the travel team. Our team is U-14, but since we were the only rec team in our division, our team got bumped down into the U-12. But the teams are all challenge. I don’t even know why we got bumped down. But anyway… I will write about it maybe during the week, but I don’t know. Well, I have to go.

Savannah- Don’t forget to keep playing soccer! ;]

• Aug. 22, 2008 - Soccer all week long soon to start

I am so excited! Soccer will officialy start for me on Monday. I have practice with the girls' team that day. My coach sounds really tough- I mean he's an A-Class coach though. It will be awesome having the '91 Breakers as sort of coaches! And the Wetheads- that should be a challenge. We only have 13 players, and Kelly and maybe Ryleigh are on the Wetheads and the girls' team! So, if we all decided to play for the girls', then the Wetheads wouldn't have enough people to play a game. That's a dilema in itself. Then the travel team..... Well, I don't know how I'll like the games. Mom's said that I might not like the intensity of the tournament coming up- I think I will but I never really thought about it before, I guess. This season should be fun though- I'll be on three teams, and I'll be able to help out with Rachel's team! :D Well, better go- it's kind of late, and the travel team's having a scrimmage with some random people and whoever shows up at 10:30 tomorrow morning! Only a few more weekends left where I'll be sleeping in! Oh, one last thing- my soccer schedule will be like this:

Monday- Girls' team practice

Tuesday- Rachel's practice

Thursday- Cameron's practice

Friday- Wetheads' practice

Saturday and/or Sunday- games

And somewhere in there, the travel team will have practice. Okay, this is the final bye! LOL

• Aug. 1, 2008 - Travel Practice

Well, practice with the travel team was great!!!! We practiced some corner kicks, and getting square. That's where say a middy runs up and a forward, for example, gets lined up with the middy. Then, the middy passes to the forward and the middy will run up a bit. Then the forward passes up to the middy and then continues his/her run. I thought the drill was alot of fun, but I don't think some of the guys did!! LOL Later, we played a scrimmage! In the last few minutes of the practice, there was lightning- which it was really cool that the rain held off til the end of the entire practice!! Well, I gotta go!!!

• Jul. 25, 2008 - Practice and a Game

Well, practice with the all-guys' rec travel team went well! We kicked around for a bit, and then played power finesse- I am pretty sure I spelled it wrong! Only 7 people showed up for practice including me. My coach thinks some people might have accidentally gone to a different field. Oh, well! Then, we did a drilll where there were 3 defenders and 3 forwards. I was center defence and I had to cover the center forward. It was fun! Then, we just scrimmaged. I think it was a good practice! I also saw the MLS All-Stars play West Ham United! It was a good game- and I am really happy that the MLS All-Stars won! West Ham plays in the Premiere League, and the MLS team beat them! Yay! Did anyone else see that game? Well, hope to talk to you all soon- and don't forget to comment!
