I gave my 6 year old "the Lecture" at Mcd's the other day b/c he was unhappy with the character toy he got. This was actually the 2nd time this happenned. I also deal with hearing how another boy in the neighborhood always gets the latest and the greatest new toys out there. So I blew a gasket. (no Mcd's probably for the month of July, actually I would not mind ever going back)
So I went on and on. He may not have understood all I said but he stayed quiet and was content with his toy for the rest of the day! It felt good to get it off my chest. (I was not mean and loud just firm in my tone)
Now what is neat is that a few days later he asked for a Buzz Lightyear toy. At first I cringed but then I said, ok let's check out freecycle. (In my lecture I also explained how God does want us to enjoy things and we can ask.) We can ask the freecycle folks but no gaurantee. We got a response and picked up Buzz today! We found a cardboard box to make a ship for Buzz.. He is happily playing with it now.
Thank you God that you want us to enjoy things. You always give us what we need and sometimes what we want. You just want our hearts to be content in you!
