Jun. 22, 2009 - A day in the life of me

Well. I have been trying to write up an entry on the criminal dude, but as usual I lose inspiration for anything that anyone else wants me to write. So while you are waiting for that, I have a rather random and disjointed entry for you, packed with the thoughts and experiences of the last couple of weeks.

Also, we went off to an ATI conference this weekend in our trusty new bus. We aren’t an ATI family yet, but we’re possibly maybe considering it, and in the couple of years it always takes us to make up our minds about this sort of thing they’re quite happy for us to tag along.

I think ATI in NZ is largely rather different to how it is in America. Less formal, for one thing. The skirt wearing thing sorta illustrates the atmosphere – everyone does wear them on campus (uh… the girls, anyway), but they mostly couple them with gansta hoodies. Which I gather isn’t the normal attitude your way? *grin* Not to mention the fact they have a rehab type ministry on campus, so everyone consorts happily with criminals and Delinquent Youths.

Despite this (or perhaps because of it?), they’re all fantastic people, and I made some awesome friends in the couple of days we spent there. They’re just so inspired for God and so active and focused in serving him and others… it’s great to see.

Also, we got to know our bus rather well, in the two days and nights spent in it…

Impressions of our new bus:

-    Wind. The wind plays a very big part in the bus experience. As do the windows, which slide slowly open as one travels.
-    Cold. This is pretty self-explanatory, in the middle of one of the coldest winters we’ve had in years. I’m pretty sure it would have been snowing if it wasn’t raining so hard.
-    The wipers go squeak, screeeeeeeeeech, click. Squeak, screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech, click. In some ways the click is the most irritating part of all.
-    The door is cool. There’s this little button at the front that pressurized it shut, and when it is you can open it but it’s jolly hard work. Sometimes you have to brace your feet against the wall to tug it open, and then you need to get someone reliable to hold it while you squeeze through or it will trap you halfway through.
-    We’re trying to convince Dad to let us all spray paint it in bright colours. Wish us luck with that.
-    We’re also trying to convince Dad that he doesn’t need to remove one of the seats and install a toilet. The smells alone are enough to put me off the idea, let alone the noises…

And… moving right along. Just in case you were under any doubts about the chaos and general sinfulness reigning supreme in our household, I shall proceed to illustrate it now for you all, in the following examples:

--
First up we bring you a day in the life of our new homeschooling system (AKA Dad teaching)…

Dad: So on your average set of accounts you have your income statement documenting your assets…
Ione: (whining) Dad, you still haven’t even told me what assets are.
Dad: …including your starting stock and your purchases, minus your ending stock…
Ione: Dad, you’re standing in front of the blackboard.
Dad: (ignoring her) …that’s called your net profits or your gross profits…
Ione: I can’t even see what you’re writing, Dad…
Dad: …then you have your vehicle costs and your wages…
Ione: (mutters) Fine then, I just won’t write it.
Ben: (farts noisily and snickers)
Gabrielle: (raises her pen threateningly)
Ben: (snickers to himself obliviously and farts again)
Dad: …so your current assets, your stock-
Ben: Ow! Gabrielle, go away!
Gabrielle: (glaring) Go away yourself, you loser.
Dad: (looks up) Ben, are you farting again?
Ben: She stabbed me in the head!
Dad: (exasperated) Ben, are you even listening? Would you rather I just sent you to school?
Ben: Would you rather I just went to school?
Gabrielle: Yes! Please do!

--
And here, a snippet of Dinnertime conversation from the Stuart household, staring our very own Liviyaya…

Livi: (starts tipping her food off her plate)
Heather: Livi, Mummy will be scary if you do that!
Livi: (keeps doing it)
Mum: (sneaks up behind her and roars)
Livi: (bursts into tears) You're a mean mummy!
Mum: And I have to keep being a mean scary mummy if you don't eat your food.
Livi: (glaring) I'll tip a cup of water on you if you do it again!
Mum: (trying to be stern) (failing) Well, I've got a whole jug of water to tip on you, so you'll end up wetter.
Livi: (still glaring) I'll cut your head off!
Dad: (bundles Livi off to bed without any more dinner)

--
And… we interrupt this broadcast to provide you with a snippet of a story by Keren, acted out by the infamous pencil family:

(Small pencil shoves her parent pencils off the side of the boat)
Parents: (climbing back onto deck) "Now we're all wet, little one."
Daughter: (chucks them back in the water) "No treats for you now, parents!"

--

As you can see, our lessons are profitable, our parents are highly venerated and peace and harmony reigns supreme in our Good Homeschooling Home.

--
And lastly, our quote of the week:

Gabrielle: Livi, you're the man.
Livi: *enthusiastically* Yeah, I'm the big, huge, fat man.

--

Heh. Signing off, yours, etc, etc... and you should see the proper entry soon.

Well, my kind of soon. Maybe.

*grin*

Hahahaha! Your family sounds awesome... seriously...

:D :D

Oh! I used to be in ATI! :D And yes, it sounds quite a bit different from the ATI here.

You know, what might be like, really really amazing, is if you could like, maybe post some pictures of y'alls scenery!! :D seriously... from what i've seen, New Zealand scenery is just... amazingly jaw-droppingly spectacularly epic!

That probably sounds weird to you, but i live in Texas, and there's literally NO mountains, forests, or anything cool like that. actually, it's pretty hard to find a hill around where i live... but anyways, just a suggestion! :)

Oh, how old is your brother Ben? out of curiosity...

^and that is my comment^ :)

When Beth comes to visit you sometime or other, I'm going to hide in her suitcase and come too ;-) Don't tell her though because she's good, and she wouldn't let me :-)
hopefully there will be lots of air since it's such a long flight...
Oh yes, Ben's right you should post some NZ pictures, that would be awesome!

Yip I agree with your friend Anthony van der Zwaag. I know you exaggerate on things so I don't really what to hear about the so-called criminal. Does Jerusha have asthma? BTW, I want to hear about the hospital insident.

Jul. 10, 2009 - Very busy

Posted by wildchild222
I'm not a meanie! But I do want to hear about the hospital trip though.

Metro Station is cool no matter who is in there. Mitchell Musso's older brother is in the band and there family are said to be Christians.

I'm not really busy in the holidays but I've got a cold and my voice is squeaky and Tim is very sick. Dad has put hand sanitizers everywhere in the house so we don't pick up germs. I'm also missing out a day of work which sucks!

Grace is replying to Altari's comment!!!! *gasps and cheers from the audience*

So, yes, I know it's been forever. I am truly sorry, and will try not to do it again (though I probably will! *wrinkles nose at self*). You'll probably have to go back and read your comment on my post in order for MY comment to make sense....

First off, I loved this post, as I think I told you in your cbox. But anyways. I love it! You seem to have a very spiffy family!

I am glad you liked the art work, and I am very happy I spent the time on it, instead of blogging! *runs and hides from angry bloggers* But you're right, you're hardly one to talk. *mischevious smile*

You ask if I've been talking like a debater lately. Well, nope! I do not debate, because debating is scary and I care next to nothing about India or environmental policy! (I am being positively rebellious today!) I talk like an actress, still, but I don't always incorporate that into my writing. ;-) Debaters talk weird. I don't understand what they say... it depends on the debate topics of the year, but last year they were all spewing about pragmatism and India and cases and cross-examination.... Like this for Lincoln-Douglas debaters (which means one-on-one):
Me: "So, um... how did your round go?"
Them: "Oh, it was SO crazy! She was arguing MATH, and how idealism promotes math, and the world would be lost without math, and I had all this pragmatic evidence to negate her case, but she just kept going on that one path, and wouldn't answer my cross-ex questions right-off.
Me: "So, do you think you won?"
Them: "Oh, yeah, well, maybe, well, I don't know. I flowed really badly through the whole thing, and I think it affected my speeches. We'll see what happens. But I gotta go now- I'm up next against *blank* and I have to get someone to brief me on his case!"

I totally made that up, btw, in case Beth comes by here and starts asking who I'm talking about. =)

Team Policy debate lingo is even stranger. I got to understand the LD catch-phrases pretty well, but TP was too much. *shakes head* But I love all those ridiculous debaters to death, even if they baffle me!! You'd love to know all my wonderful friends. And they'd love to know you! I wish you could have fun with us too! I'm glad you thought the video was worth the wait. Wow, I had too much fun creating it!!

As for the suits, which you call 'ghastly', it's really not so bad. It's neat to all be dressed professionally. And you don't actually HAVE to wear a suit. Nice blouses and slacks work too. I loved my suit, though, ever so much! Well, I had several, but I adored my cream-colored one. Vintage, lacy, and topped off with white gloves when not competing. I love things like that. Ah, such is my wonderful life!

Love,
~Grace

P.S. I'm glad we're FB friends!! Yayness.

The Lady

Gabrielle is brilliant, beautiful, talented, sweet and good, yet marvellously humble. Haha... No. Let's try that again...

Gabrielle has a wicked sense of humour and far too much pride for her own good. She loves to write, and has spent a good portion of her life buried in books. She loves old English literature, anything Tolkien, and well-written humour.

She loves blogging, fanfiction, and spends a good portion of her day on her computer. Pretty active, she enjoys climbing, swimming, running, and sitting up trees, yet does not enjoy most ball sports.

At sixteen, she is still far more immature than she should be and enjoys the fact far too much, yet she can be serious at times and ponders deeply on many issues. She takes her faith very seriously, and strives to make becoming like her Lord her greatest wish.

She enjoys talking about herself in the third person.

Dol Amroth

Dol Amroth was a coastal city in South Gondor. Built on a hilltop overlooking the Bay of Belfalas and crowned by Tirith Aear - the seaward tower - it was the Jewel of the Southern coasts. The Princes of Dol Amroth were prominent in Gondor and ruled much of the land about Belfalas.

Dol Amroth was the home of both sailors and mounted knights, yet they were also renowned for their harpists. The people of Dol Amroth were of Numenorian decent, and also accounted to have had elvish blood - passed down from Mithrellas, one of Nimrodel of Lothlorien's handmaidens. They were tall, dark haired and grey eyed, and spoke, for the most part, Sindarin.

Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth fought in the battle of the Pelennor Fields with many of his knights, and won renown for his deeds there, which included saving the life of his nephew, Faramir. Imrahil's sister, Finduilas, was the wife of Denethor, Steward of Gondor, and the mother of Boromir and Faramir. Imrahil's daughter, Lothiriel, later married King Eomer of Rohan.
