Surf's up, dude! We have officially begun the process of becoming a surfing family. We started out last year by going to a lesson to whet the kids' appetites. We wanted to see if it would be something they'd really be interested in. All through the winter it kept coming up now and then, and we thought we'd wait 'til summer to see for sure. Well, it's official. My biggest boys are all Daring and Dangerous, Surfing Dudes! We already had half the stuff from years long past (yes, their wetsuits are too big, they're my size... but they don't seem to mind!) and we waited for a really great deal on the rest (50% off, woohoo!), so they are all currently outfitted for a LOT of fun in the surf! Living at the beach is such a blessing! We figure if they stay into it we'll give them surfing lessons next year and they can save up to buy themselves surf boards.
We might miss out on a lot not living in the US and not near family, but we count ourselves BLESSED. There are so many things to be thankful for, and the opportunity for us to spend some time together and have this kind of fun is truly one of them! Since Micah often spends his afternoons and evenings in course preparation, evangelism, and then meetings in the evening, mornings are often available as family time. Also the beach is WAY less crowded on weekday mornings, so what better time to surf, right?! :)
Getting ready for the send-off of the big boys on their adventures... the littles and I stayed home and played around in the kiddie pool.

My husband and son had a blast on their boogie boards in Hawaii last year. I got walloped by a couple good waves and decided to read a book on the beach instead, and I think I had the way better time. :-) They did keep at it for almost three hours though! Fun to watch them, too.
