I is for IBEM
which stands for Instituto Biblico de Entrenamiento Misionero
(Biblical Institute for Missionary Training)
This is the team that we have the privilege of working with
organizing and operating IBEM here in Trujillo, Peru.
The Bible Institute is currently one of our main ministries here in Peru. While Micah is especially gifted in many areas, his main interest is in evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and teaching, ...just to name a few, hahahaha! ;)
To put it briefly, when we came back in 2007 from a time in the States, we actually moved to Trujillo (coast) from Cajamarca (Andes mtns) with the intention of working more closely with this team (lovely folks) and to assist in regular operation of the Institute. We had already been involved with the Institute since its beginning in January of 2006 commuting from afar, and saw and felt that Trujillo is where the Lord would have us for the time being. As of now, the Institute consists of 3 one-month long modules each year, with intense Bible classes as well as hands-on ministry opportunities. Among the 12-18 students who attend each module, there are brothers and sisters from all over the country, all of whom are leaders or elders in their home churches.
Micah has taught courses on Ministry, Apologetics, Paul's Missionary Journeys, Evangelism, Bibleology (I have no idea if that is the right word... :) and is the coordinator for the practical ministries which means personal evangelism, open-air meetings, various work projects, and leading of all kinds of church meetings.
My main ministry is to make it possible for Micah to minister by taking care of his children and supporting him in the various ways that a wife can. I am also involved in the planning/organizing meetings for IBEM - often in our home, and try to spend time especially with the female students -this is an area we definitely need to improve on.
The Lord has been so good to let us be involved in this area of His work, and we are truly grateful for the opportunity to serve Him in this capacity. We have learned so many valuable lessons such as working with a team and inter-personal-multicultural relationships.
