Jun. 11, 2008 - Free E-Book Downloads

Have you been to www.librivox.org yet?  If not, and you are interested in free downloadable e-books for mp3 players, you should stop by.  They are a wonderful organization that have reader recorded e-books from the public domain works, completely for free.  So far I've downloaded books from Jane Austen, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, Chaucer, and Duma.  They have so many available, it is very impressive to me.  I had purchased an inexpensive used mp3 player on Ebay about a year ago, but never really used it.  Recently I've been wanting to do more reading, but for some reason I read so slowly that there just isn't time.  SO, I decided to see if I could find some free e-books and found this site.  I like to listen to the books while I do housework.  It enables me to hear the stories I wanted to read all while motivating me to get up and get some work done.  I think I'm officially addicted to the e-book! ;)  I guess I'm trying to spreading the addiction?!?!

I pray that you all are having a wonderful blessed day!

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)

Jun. 4, 2008 - Nursing Decal

Have you all seen the little stick people window decals that have become popular (around here anyway) lately?  Well, I decided to make myself a nursing stick person decal.  Here are the 3 I drew up.

And, here is what it actually came out looking like once I cut it and put it on the window of my van.

Ya'll just ignore all of the dirt on the window! ;)

So, do you all think it turned out okay?  I wasn't sure about the heart part if it was too big or looked kind of funny or not.  Maybe I need to make a short sleeved top to the skirt part and make the heart smaller inside of it, like on the other ones.

Anyhow, I just thought I'd see what you all think of them.

Thanks for visiting!!

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)

Jun. 4, 2008 - Birthdays

Weekend before last, we celebrated Elizabeth and my birthdays on her actual birthday, Sunday, May 25th.  Mine is the 28th, but since I don't "really" celebrate mine anymore, we just have her birthday party and call it "our" birthday party. ;)  Here are some pictures from the celebration.

Elizabeth & Her Cake

Abigail, my brother's oldest daughter.

My Mom and Gillian, my brother's youngest daughter.

My Daddy and my brother, Teddy

Left to Right: Brittany, Jeremiah, Amanda (my friend from Nursing School & her daughter and husband before), Amber (my sil),  & Abigail (my neice).

I was going to try and put up a video of Elizabeth blowing out her candles, but I guess we can't do that.  Anyhow, we had a great time with lots of food, family, and friends.

I pray that you all are having a wonderful day today!  Thanks for stopping by!!

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)

May. 19, 2008 - Making Progress, Maybe?

Well, I almost cannot believe it, but both of my babies have decided (Elizabeth much more enthusiastically than Seth) to play baseball this summer.  I am so happy that Seth finally agreed to play.  I think he really needs to at least try a team sport just to see if he likes it.  It will give him a sense of being part of a group and hopefully help improve his self-esteem and build new friendships.  Who knows, a better attitude may even develop.  I can hope anyway can't I! ;)  For Elizabeth, I hope it will help her learn a little more about relationships with other children, you know since she really isn't around other children very often.  Anyway, this ball playing news leads to the next news.  Since taking night classes this summer would've interfered with the ball practices and games I have changed my schedule to take Psychology online instead of on campus.  There's no way that I could miss any of my babies' ball playing.  I'm actually glad I'll be taking it online instead because it will last 2 months instead of 1 and thus will be a little less crammed maybe.

Other news is that now that I'm not having to attend classes on campus, I've started trying to do school lessons with Elizabeth more consistently.  Since I don't know exactly where we stand in terms of our studies, I have started our alphabet and numbers back from the beginning.  Now, I just have to make myself be consistent.  After talking with some friends, I really think I'm going to order the Pathways Phonics workbooks.  While browsing around for them, I also decided to order the Rod & Staff Preschool ABC series and the Preschool workbooks too.  Even though they are really reasonably priced, it's a little stretch for me right now.  I think they will be worth it though.  I was really impressed with the sample lessons they have available on their site and I really want her to be ready for starting Kindergarten.  Starting school with a bunch of strangers will be hard enough.  The last thing I want is for her to be behind.  Oh do I ever dread the day, but I suppose I won't have a lot of choice due to my ever changing schedule and responsiblities.  Anyhow, here is a picture of some of her recent work beside which stands a very proud student.

You'll have to ignore the catagories because I have all kind of work stuck everywhere besides the correct places.  It seems like it may be slow progress, kind of like 1 step forward and 2 steps back, but hopefully things will progress better when we get a routine going.

Anyhow, I pray that you all have a wonderful day today!  Thanks to all who have taken the time to stop by!!!

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)

May. 9, 2008 - 6 Word Memoir

I saw this tag over at Michelle's blog and even though I wasn't tagged I thought I'd give it a try.  So, here's my memoir:

Clutter all around, Makes me frown!

I really need to get to work in this house!  I also have a cross stitch project I need to complete and get in the mail asap.  And, my summer class starts Monday, June 2.  What do I focus on first?  I guess I need to go and get a bath first! ;)

I pray that all of you have a wonderful day today!

Oh, and if anyone is wondering about the cross stitch project and likes to cross stitch, check this site out.  It is a wonderful way to show care for some sick children and their families.

Apr. 30, 2008 - My Babies and I....

This was taken back in November at Shiloh Park.  I'm just now managing to get it onto the computer and thought since it turned out to be a fairly decent photo for having myself in it, that I would share it.

Love & Blessings,

Apr. 24, 2008 - School Related Update

It's been a little while since I last posted about school. I'm doing okay though. We just like 4 more days, 1 more regular exam, and the final this semester. We had our last clinical day for the semester 2 weeks ago. I finished my Human Growth and Development on Monday and as far as I can see I think I got an A in there. I also got my fees paid for my summer class that I HAVE to take in order to enter the next semester of nursing. Hopefully it won't be too bad. It is general psychology and I'm taking in on campus 3 nights a week from 6pm to 9:10pm. I'm not particularly fond of the time, but it was the best teacher so I decided I would have to sacrifice. It's also only 4 weeks and then I will have about a 6 week break before fall classes begin. I'm soooo looking forward to that break.

Seth is having some trouble on the school bus. Apparently his little buddy and he tend to get along one day and fuss the next and the bus driver had them meet with the school principal in an attempt to scare them into behaving. While I know that Seth is far from perfect, I really think it is more of the little buddy that gets them into trouble because he is much more aggressive than Seth. In other words Seth may get mad, but he is really emotional and kind of scaredish of fighting so he would never start a fight and usually won't even fight back when other children are hitting/picking on him. Anyway, the thing that disappoints me most is that they never even contacted me to say that there was a problem. The only reason I know about it is because Seth told me. I don't know if I should just let it go or if I should call them and ask them about it. I guess since it is only about 4 weeks until school lets out I won't call unless there is another incident.

Both Seth and Elizabeth seem to be getting bigger, smarter, and sassier all of the time. I have to really watch them about having bad, hateful attitudes and speech. It is very tiresome and somewhat sad to see them growing up so fast and getting so independent and I don't know exactly, but kind of hardened I guess. It's like they're losing their sweet, innocent, constantly loving personalities and it is disheartening. I'm not sure if it is just normal for ages/stages or if it is an exposure problem (Seth picking it up at school and Elizabeth learning it from Seth) and I need to do some serious, serious disciplining. Other than that though, they are lovely. And, they do still have their very sweet moments now and then.

Anyhow, I pray that all are well and having a lovely day today.

Love & Blessings,
(: Amanda :)

Apr. 22, 2008 - :) Thankful! (:

Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; (KJV)

Last night I was reading through all of the blogs of my online friends and I just felt very thankful.  The Lord has given me such a blessing in the form of online fellowship with wonderful Christian ladies.  I was also thinking of all of the other wonderful blessings He has been bestowing.  All around, in my own life and in the lives of my family and friends, I see Him opening new doors.  There's new homes, new home improvements, educational advancements, new inventions, restored and/or continued health, and happiness (at least most of the time I think!).  There's the changing season and of course, the chance to spend another day in this life.  I pray that each of us is able to use this day wisely and to the glory and honour of the Lord.  I want to thank each of you, my online friends, for being there and sharing your lives with myself and others.  I very often find wonderful examples and inspiration in your words, and I'm sure others do as well.

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)

Mar. 21, 2008 - Snow a couple of weeks ago...

Oh yeah, I also wanted to post some pictures of the snow we got here with my weather advisory post from before.  I know it's not really impressive, but since we usually only get snow like once a year and this is a big snow for us, I couldn't resist!  ;)

The first snow angels is Elizabeth, second is Seth, and the third is...yep you guessed it...mine.  I just had to show them how to do it, you know. ;)

Love & Blessings,

Mar. 21, 2008 - Happy Good Friday!

Happy Good Friday to everyone!  I have had a pretty good morning so far.  Seth is out of school today, I am always out on Fridays, and Chad got off of work today.  So basically, we have the house full this morning.  :)

Just out of curiosity, do any of you ever have really odd, yet really vivid dreams?  I had the oddest dream last night that Seth was trying to drive a pick-up truck in a parking lot and managed to wreck into 2 parked vehicles.  I made sure to tell him first thing this morning, "Never, ever, ever, ever, ever drive a vehicle by himself until his father and I tell him he can."  I don't know why I had such a silly dream in the first place....he couldn't even reach the pedals if he wanted to, but it was still very upsetting.

Well, I guess I need to go and get bathed and into day clothes and start trying to put my "MOUNTAIN" of laundry away.  I really do mean mountain.  Somehow when you are in school, things around your home seem to become  neglected beyond normal. :(

Anyhow, I pray for a wonderful day for everyone of you.

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)

Mar. 7, 2008 - Spring Break!!!!!

Wow!!!  I'm soooo glad I reopened this blog.  Already I have had 4 precious friends to stop by and leave a comment.  I really do love it here!  So, I hope that everyone is having an awesome morning.  Here, we are under a winter weather advisory from 6pm this evening until 6am in the morning.  It is pretty cold right now.  Earlier this morning, about 5ish, the power went out for about an hour, then came back on, then back off, then back on.  I guess they keep having to shut it off due to whatever repair they're making.  Maybe it won't go off again, at least not until I finish my post!  OH, and not to mention our electric heat is all we have.  In school news, even though school is still in session this morning, I decided to just let Seth stay home.  It is supposed to start snowing a little by afternoon and I had just assume he stay home as have to worry about if the roads got icy.  Also, Seth and I are out of school all week next week for spring break.  Oh, and I got to go to Labor and Delivery for clinical this week and although I feel like I didn't do much and might not get a great grade, I had the best time.  I got to stay with my patient through pretty much the whole laboring process and birth, all the way up until we took her to the postpartum unit.  It was really awesome.  Anyhow, I pray that all of you have a wonderful day!!!

Love & Blessings,

(: Amanda :)
