Math Mammoth ReviewMath Mammoth
Looking for an affordable math curriculum that allows you to “pick and choose” lessons according to the needs of your child? Well, Math Mammoth is a company that does offer this. There are 4 different series that are offered as CD’s or as downloads, and 2 of the series can be purchased as hardcopies. See below. Math Mammoth offers full curriculum (Lightblue Series) for grades 1-4 and Part A for 5th grade. This series includes two worktexts, answer keys, tests, and a worksheet maker. Some of the main features of the Lightblue Series are: clear explanations, exercises, is “mastery oriented”, emphasizes mental math and developing number sense, self-teaching. They are available for $27 each or $14 for separate parts. The Blue Series offers problem oriented workbooks. If there is an area that your child is struggling in, choose a worktext specific to that topic. For example: addition 1, place value 2, clock, money, early geometry. Each worktexts has a listed grade but this is a suggestion only. For my son, I chose to review Place Value 2 and Multiplication 1. These are suggested for grade 2 and grade 2-3. My son is grade 3. These worktexts helped my son to review these lessons and be able to better understand the concepts. They are not fancy or colorful, but they do provide the necessary information for the student to learn each concept. The price for each workbook download is $2-$5. They can be purchased in a package deal on CD or as a download. They can be purchased as hardcopies here. The Golden Series consists of workbooks are collections of worksheets for grades 3-8. These worksheets do not offer explanations, they are simply math problems. This series would be good for students that might need extra practice with their math. The workbooks contain from 120-150 pages each. The price varies and they can be purchased in a package deal. There are CD’s, downloads, and hardcopies available. The Green Series is similar to the Golden Series with the difference being that the workbooks are topic specific instead of grade specific. There are no explanations offered; the worksheets are on one topic and has “’very variable problems’ that not only practice computation but also check for conceptual understanding, and include work problems.” Each book covers different grade levels (suggested) on the specific topic of the book. The price of these workbooks varies and they can be purchased as a package deal. Math Mammoth may be a good option for you and your child if you are needing something affordable and/or need extra help on a specific topic. You can also check it out for free.
