Review All About Homophones

I recently told you about All About Spelling, a great program to teach spelling (see my review here). There’s another product that this company offers that I’d like to talk about. It’s All About Homophones.  It’s so big that it has it has its own website!

This book has 240 pages and is dedicated to offering information on homophones. As stated on the website, “this book is a complete teaching tool kit that helps you demystify homophones and homonyms for students.” It is designed for grades 1-8, but could be used for anyone that needs (or wants) help with homophones. Each grade has words that are appropriate for the reading or educational level. A couple of examples are: “be-bee” for first grade and “capital-capitol” for eighth grade. With each grade there are sentences with blanks for the student to write in the correct word. There are also crossword puzzles, card games, and teaching tools.

What I liked the most about the book? the puns and riddles, of course. They are really cute and can be so much fun. One that I liked and couldn't stop laughing was:

What did the grape do when it was squeezed?

It let out a little whine.

Now, isn’t that funny?

All About Homophones is available as an e-book or regular hardcopy book. The item I received to review was the e-book. I do like e-books because they are always available and are not consumable. I don’t always like that I have to print whatever I want to use, and this is simply because ink can be expensive for a printer. I recommend this book to anyone that might like help teaching homophones. It offers many techniques to help students remember the right use of each word – and it’s fun.
