Where the Brook & River Meet

Being a member of the TOS Crew has allowed us to review many products to date. Some we had not heard of until receiving, and others, we had read about and considered but hadn’t made the ultimate decision to buy. One product we received that we were not familiar with is the unit study Where the Brook and River Meet (WBRM) by Margie Gray. It is based on the classic book Anne of Green Gables. I have to say, I have never read this story! Of all the books I have read throughout my life and the fact that the Victorian Era is close to being my favorite, I cannot believe I was never introduced to this book. That has changed.

This unit study takes the story and helps the junior high or high school girl (and her mom) explore her own character growth and maturity. On the Cadron Creek website, the following quote is from Margie about WBRM:

“Before beginning Where the Brook and River Meet, I asked myself ‘What I want to teach my children?’ The answers came as I started writing—I want to prepare my daughters for singleness or married life; to teach them how to be godly wives and mothers; to help them learn marketable skills; and, above all, I want to nurture them in the knowledge of the Lord. That is what Marilla wanted for Anne and what she set about doing in Anne of Green Gables.’”

She accomplished this for our daughters, too. The depth of this unit study is incredible! Margie does recommend adding science lab, Latin, and math to “round” the curriculum. Even though there are subjects recommended to add, this unit study is comprehensive and includes detailed lesson plans, hands-on activities, and planning guides. We also received for our review Anne’s Anthology. This is a “compilation of poetry which Lucy Maud Montgomery quoted or alluded to in Anne of Green Gables.” There are 694 pages of pieces from such authors as: John Keats, Sir Walter Scott, Shakespeare, and Alfred, Lord Tennyson. I love poetry and it was a pleasure to read through this book while going through WBRM.

If you have a daughter that is approaching or in Junior High or High School, I recommend this unit study for your family. It is wonderfully put together and thorough. The price for WBRM is $65.00.
