The Beautiful Blessings of Home
pregnancy week by week
Nov. 28, 2006 - 24 hour "morning sickness"

I have not been around much lately first due to thanksgiving preparations, now due to my 24-hour "morning sickness".

In my first pregnancy I had NO morning sickness, 2nd- none, 3rd- not really sick just a loss of appetite. Now since Saturday I have had horrible 24-hour "morning sickness". Yes, that is right all day and all night.

I am not throwing up but I am very nauseous. I also feel like I am starving all the time, then I eat and I feel nauseous, then about 5 minutes later I feel starving again !?!?! I woke up last night at 3:00 in the morning and I was sooo hungry so I went downstairs and had a piece of sprouted toast w/ organic peanut butter on it and a glass of  kefir. That quenched the hunger slightly but not much.

I am not sure why I feel so horrible. I am taking my SuperMom vitamins, my cod liver oil, drinking Kefir everyday, and I am  trying to get to eating as healthy as I would like.

I am barely able to do the basic necessities of keeping my house together. My house needs a good cleaning, I have a mountain of laundry that needs to be folded and ironed, an undecorated Christmas tree in my living room, all my fall decorations still up.

So any way that is why I have not been around as of late

Well, I am going to put the kiddies to bed and lie down on the couch.

Praying you will begin to feel a bit better soon, I know how you feel. I was getting better by week 11 but it was pretty bad up until then. Have you tried any of the nausea remedies? Ginger (small amounts), lemon, eating small meals of protein often???

Take care of yourself and your new blessing! :-)

especially the protein. With the first few pregnancies I did the typical Saltine cracker diet to fend off morning sickness. But these last few pregnancies I've found that I can keep it better controlled if I am steadily eating protein instead of carbs. Much as a chicken breast or an egg doesn't sound good, they are often the only things to take the edge off.

Have you tried ginger snaps? They get the ginger in you that calm your stomach. Also, I have to agree with the protein, you NEED protein. Ground beef & bean burritoes with mozzarella cheese was what kept me going. It may not sound good, but it helped me. In my homebirth book it says that 100mg of vitamin B6 daily may help. Also, don't allow yourself to get dehydrated. Try to drink 1/2 cup water every half hour if possible. Gingerale may also help.
Blessings,
Heather

Don't want to sound repetitive, but I agree with the others....you need protein. Between my 6th and 7th week (I'm 9 wks now) I had a 5 day "yucky tummy" episode. I never threw up but my tummy was not well and, like you, I kept being hungry. At first I tried to feed myself, but it just made everything worse and didn't quench the hunger...then I realized the hunger was fake, from the preggy hormones messing with my blood sugar. So, I put myself on a 4 hr. feeding schedule with plenty or protein to fix my messed up blood sugar:

meal one: 2 eggs, turkey sausage, kefir and blueberry shake

4 hrs later: cottage cheese with pineapple chunks and flax meal

4 hrs. later: Tuna Salad, 1 hardboiled egg, steamed kale greens

4 hrs. later: Venison burger, 1 sm. baked potato, big green salad

It would always happen that 2 hrs after eating I would get the fake hunger and yucky feeling...I would just pop a couple of Altoids and go on with life. Iced water with lemon helps too. After 3 days of eating A LOT of protein, things were much much better. Other than the normal tiredness (I'm sleeping 9 hours a night!) I feel great :-)

I know it may sound strange, but strawberry poptarts and soymilk helped me with sickness. Sucking on fruit flavored hard candy helped too.

You may try brushing your teeth everytime you eat, if you don't do that already. The mintiness of the toothpaste may settle your stomach. Fresh air may also help.

Ahhh, memories... With my first pregnancy, I didn't have morning sickness at all, and I lost that baby due to miscarriage. With the next four pregnancies after that, I had all day "morning" sickness with almost daily throwing up.

I too was constandly hungry, and constandly naucious. It would stay with me until around 19-22 weeks along. I just did minimal housework, and took it easy - a lot.

I had scheduled rest times. I'd rest from 11:00am to 11:45 am, then again from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. I'd also sleep in until about 8 or 8:30am, and I'd try to be in bed by 10:00 at night. That way, I got plenty of rest, and when I was in a good sleep, I didn't feel like I was going to throw up. I have awaked a few times to throw up, but it rarely happened.

Sleep, rest, and joy in the fact that you are going through this, because your body is growing a strong, healthy baby. :-)

This is a short season in life, and will pass quickly. ;-)

Hello!

I found you through Musings of a Mountain Mama.

I was wondering if you'd tried Tummy-Tune-Up, also by Beeyoutiful.com?

I've heard that it can do wonders for a mama with morning sickness - or all-day sickness, in your case - and mine. I plan to try it with my next pregnancy!

I will keep you in my prayers. Hope it passes!

Thank you for your response on my blog. I posted a reply, but wanted to let you know I apologize if I offended. It was not my intent. I was mostly venting my frustrations at the process, not the people involved.

Hope your "24-hour" sickness is subsiding.

I don't know about you but it seemed I had much worse morning sickness with the girls than I did with the boys.

Dec. 19, 2006 - Help for 24 hour morning sickness
Posted by Anonymous
Hello! Been there with the 24 hour morning sickness. It lasted the first five solid months of my pregnancy. I found something called Seabands (bands you wear on your wrists) that are sold for motion sickness at most drugstores. This worked immediatly to ease it. I was eventually put on Zofram (a drug for chemo patients) that worked awesome. I didn't want to take anything, but the doctor was concerned I could lose the baby because I was so dehydrated and just couldn't stop throwing up. Kept gaining weight though..I am a medical miracle :)

So Seabands and Coke (which I hate). Also, pickle juice and ginger tea and, of course, Ginger ale worked.

Many Belssings :)
