First entry!!! Stardate 07/24/07

Posted in General
Hello! This is my first time blogging so I'm not quite sure how to start. I guess I will try starting with a quick intro of our family. I am AH., mother to 4 wonderful blessings and wife to my darling best friend, F., for 11 years. We have 3 tenderhearted girls--K., age 8, A., age 6, and L., age 4, and one sweet little boy, FQ., who is 20 months. We are Christ followers and love our church and small group.

We have been homeschooling since the beginning. We are not very creative or exciting homeschoolers. I see other folks on this blog site with all sorts of creative and fun things on their blogs. I wish I could do all of that! But whatever is the opposite of crafty--that is what I am.

We have used Sonlight from the start, with Math U See for math (duh!). We've added in Five in a Row and Winter Promise here and there, but our foundations are rooted in SL and MUS. This year, we're using SL's Core 3 (American History Part 1) for both K. and A. A. is kind of young for the Core, so I bought a few books from WP's American Story 1 to substitute if there is a SL book that is at too high of a level for her. K. is using SL's language arts program, LA 3 Advanced. A. is using SL's LA 2 Intermediate program. K. is doing MUS Gamma while A. is doing Beta. A. uses Handwriting without Tears for handwriting, while K. is done with official penmanship workbooks and just writes for practice. We're using SL's Science 2 for both the older girls.

We add in a few other things too, Mind Benders, some fine arts things, Spanish and ASL. I "cheat" for both the Spanish and ASL though.  I found a bilingual lady who teaches Spanish at her house and I have them watch "Signing Time" DVDs twice a week for ASL instruction.

L. has "homeschooled" from the beginning! She loves doing whatever her sisters are doing, so at a wee age, she was sitting at the table with her sisters, coloring, "writing", "reading" etc. Nowadays I read her books from Before Five in a Row, FIAR, and she reads me "Bob" book type things. She does 2 Dot-to-Dot pages every day (and colors them) and has started printing with HWT (she has been wanting to write for a long time).

My kids love homeschooling--though they have never really known anything else. We are so blessed that we live in a state where homeschoolers are "free" for the most part (there is little legislation) and there are lots of support groups in our community.

Well, that is enough background on us. I started this blog mainly because with SL's LA programs, the girls are doing a lot of creative expression and I wanted to get their writing "published". What better way than a blog, eh? Hopefully, I can keep up with this blog. I'd like to write about our typical days, and our numerous extracurricular activities. I'll write about those tomorrow.

God bless!
AH

Welcome to Homeschoolblogger!!! I saw kaenhu in my comments and thought "Wow, that seems familiar?"

No, the ice cream did not get grainy. I think it is because you don't let it get very melty & you are stirring it to keep it from seperating. It was so yummy, you have to try it!

You Are a Mac
You are creative, stylish, and super trendy. You demand the best - even if it costs an arm and a leg.
You Are Austin
A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. You're totally weird and very proud of it. Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way. Famous Austin residents: Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock, Andy Roddick
You Belong in Paris
You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris. You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.
What Your Pizza Reveals
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either. You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US. Your taste in food tends to favor what's rich and comforting. You prefer food that will definitely satisfy you. You are eclectic, stylish, and totally random with your choices. You are deep and thoughtful. You should consider traveling to Paris. The stereotype that best fits you is guy or girl next door. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average.
